4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20 yespr (26476) - Copenhagen O, DENMARK - OCT 9, 2009
50cL bottle. Pours pitch black with a one finger thick, chocolate brown and creamy head. Aroma is fruity and light wooden. Roasted malt and light liqourice. Dark chocolate and coffee. Smooth roasted malt flavoured, light sweetness, dark chocolate and rather fruity hops note. Mild vanilla wooden note, nothing special though from the barrel aging. Not the first time a rather complex and towards perfect beer really doesn’t gain from being put on barrels. Smooth and warming finish with lasting hops fruity and roasted malt flavoured finish. Rather complex - yet some of the juxtapoint experiences from the base brew is mashed/blurred together from the barrel aging. More dominant alcohol burn.

Bottle 50 cl. Courtesy of Ungstrup. Pours a pitch black with a light brown head. Hard roasted malts in the nose with a vague whisky note. Solid body, hard roasted sweet malts and vanilla. The dextrose is not so prominent in this Mikkeller impy. Hard roasted malt finish. The whisky accents are a little too downplayed. 030410

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 fiulijn (12360) - Malmö, DENMARK - SEP 9, 2011
Tasting at Papsø Black color; small-sized brownish head. The aroma is not strong, burnt malt and light alcohol; roasted malts come out later; light coffee and roasted nuts. The mouthfeel of this one is slightly more oily than usual, also helped by the additional alcohol feeling; chocolate and dark caramel flavor, with hints of tobacco, coffee and liquorice. Strong bitterness, with very light alcohol presence too in the end. Solid but not impressive.
