(Bottle, purchased at Ölbutikken, Copenhagen, June 2010) Pitch black colour with dense, brown head. Malty, roasted nose with notes of liquorice, peat smoke, oak wood, strong black coffee and hints of ashes. Malty, roasted taste with strong black coffee, Islay whisky, oak wood, peat, tar and liquorice. Dark chocolate and cocoa in the background. Solid roasty coffee bitterness in the finish. Full body, with almost oily mouthfeel. Quite sweet. Warming alcohol comes through in the finish. Very powerful beer, shy is not really the word for it. Lovely beer!

500 ml bottle at Chez Moeder Lambic Fontainas - Pours pitch black with a dark brown head with grey hints. Aroma is very peat peat peat, with dark chocolate undertone. Huge body with edhy flavours of wood, whiskey and coffee. Nice!

500mL bottle, best by 3/9/12. Poured very near black with a rich, dark tan head.. looked awesome in the glass! The aroma picked up bright smoky peat and dank earthy notes over semi-sweet, ultrasmooth coffee, some molasses, and a touch of honey.. a touch medicinal, which knocked it down a notch.. hid the boozage well. The flavor found burnt coffee and black patent malts at the core.. lots of pungent medicinal smoke laced throughout.. tasty coffee was overshadowed by the not-so-smooth smoked malts on the back-end.. long, bitter, smoky finish. Medium-plus bodied, very bright, and very smoky on the palate.. the Islay really got in the way of some delicious subtleties of the base beer.. alright overall, but I prefer the original.

During Mikkel’s and Thomass’ visit in Athens, Oct 2009.Pitch black with a lovely dark brown head. A little carbonation is present.Roasted and smoked aromas, choclate, lots of coffee, a touch of wood. Roasted malt taste, again lots of coffee and chocolate, some tar, whisky is very subtle. Loved it.

Bottle, sample. Black with a light brown ring. Aroma: very peaty, some smoke, salami/medwurst. This overpowers the coffee and chocolate a bit. Taste: great peatiness, salami, chocolate, coffee. Full-bodied, smooth. Wow, this is heavy stuff, but enjoyable.

Tasting at Papsø
Black color; it pours quite oily. Very nice aroma, whiskey, peaty, with chocolate and light coffee. The mouthfeel is quite oily, the flavor is strong chocolate first of all, with pleasant peaty/whiskey touch, some roasted malt, and light liquorice (I would be happy even without it). Very good, a bit chaotic but with many sides to be enjoyed.

Drunk to celebrate my rating number 21,100. Bottled. A pitch black beer with a dark brown head. The aroma has notes of iodine, hard roasted malt, coffee, alcohol, smoke, and wood. The flavor is very sweet with strong notes of iodine, alcohol, roasted malt, and soy sauce, as well as medium notes of coffee, peated smoke, and wood, leading to a very dry, alcoholic, roasted, and whiskey like finish. The alcohol warms the mouth.

Shared 0.5l bottle. Pours a pitch black body with a thin bubbly brown head. Aroma is filling the room right after you pop the cap with strong smoked peat, leather, light salt and some alcohol. I also got a new aroma sense that I never have seen in a beer before: it smells like a well used plush sofa smells. Fantastic! Full-bodied, low carbonation and the mouthfeeling is thick and fat as yo mamma. Flavors are much the same fantastic stuff I got in the aroma: Lots of leather, strong roasted malts, a mild alcohol sting, peat and silver birch burned nearly to ashes leaving a burning aftertaste from all that smoke. By far the most distinct and unique in the series. The aftertaste stays around for ever! Really nice brew this.

Bottle poured a clear dark brown with a lingering ring of brown foam. Aromas of peat smoke, iodine, bitter chocolate and roastiness. Palae was medium bodied and smooth with a dry finish. Flavors of peat smoke, iodine, cocoa and light earthiness with a smooth dry lingering smokey iodine finish. Are you supposed to drink this or pour it on a cut?

Bottle from 2009. Black pour with a nice espresso brown head. Aroma is huge woody, huge smoke, vanilla, tar, hard roasted coffee, tobacco, liquorice and dark bitter chocolate. Taste is intense espresso/coffee, salmiak, smoke, burnt caramel, tobacco, alot of islay barrel feel, light salty, bitter roast and some alcohol in the end. I got so much love for this little weasel <3 .
