Bottle. Pours a insanely jet black color, the darkest beer I’ve ever seen, with a small brown head. A sweet nose of cocoa, smoke and vanilla. The flavor is super rich but balanced between smoky whiskey and big dark fruit, loads of heat, molasses, some brown sugar, astringency. Good overall. The barrel will be a lot for most people. The smoky bitter astringency with the heat is a bit rough, but this is a solid brew.

Thanks to BelgBeerGeek! 50 cl. bottle sampled @ RBBSG II. Pours a super dark brown color with a brown head. The smell is peat, roasted malt and chocolate. The taste is big peat, scotch, roasted malt, dark fruit ending dry. Full bodied, nicely carbonated and smooth.

Black colour, red hue, tan head. Aroma of smoke, Islay, ash, coffee, chocolate, molasses, whisky, peat, and chocolate. Malty flavour, sweet notes, roasted malts, ash, Islay whisky, peat, chocolate, cacao powder, light coffee notes, quite bitter. Malty finish, ash, roasted malts, mocha, bit bitter, lingering sweet. Quite a bold beer, while still showing some balance. I quite like the way this beer developed.

10/VIII/13 - 50cl bottle @ RBBSG II, my place - bottled: 9/III/9 - BB: 9/III/12 - batch: 415 (2013-740) Thanks to BelgBeerGeek for sharing the bottle!

Clear dark brown beer, small layer of beige bubbles, unstable, non adhesive. Aroma: bit peated, chloride, caramel, sugary, whisky. MF: soft carbon, medium to full body. Taste: very peated, chocolate, mocha, cocoa powder, bitter touch, alcohol, some whisky. Aftertaste: peated, caramel, whisky, mocha, bitter and hoppy ending, which is pretty surprising after 4 years

Sampled from bottle @ RBBSG II. Opaque pitch black color, small to medium sized light brown head. Aroma has a huge amount of islay whisky, damn. Taste malts, alcohol and again loads of islay whiskey. After a while you get some roastyness as well and it also gets a lot more drinkable. Full body, medium carbonation.

Courtesy of BelgBeerGeek. Thx! 50 cl. bottle sampled @ RBBSG II. Bottled on 09/03/2009. Nose carries peat but it is restrained, quite earthly in character, chocolate, syrup, molasses, coffee and roast. Taste is very clear presence of peat, not too heavy but still covering most of the base, chocolate, coffee, black pie, definite medicinal streak, liquorish, roast, touch wood. Slightly fuller body, okay carb. It is good, not too heavy but it is still an incredible original beer, loosing a lot & covering a lot of it over with peat. That is a personal opinion ~this is very well done for what it is.

Rated in 2010 (Backlog) - Black with a decent brown head. Aroma is of permanent marker, peat, wood, light plastic and ash. Taste is heavy in peat with light ash, wood, soil, light vanilla, earth, smoke and coffee.

Bottle shared with (and great courtesy of) ClubGonzo and Inbreak. Has a deep reddish brown to black colour with a small light brown head. Has a wonderful smokey whisky touch in the aroma with a lot of sweetness, oak, coffee and roasted malt in the background. Coffee in the flavour as well along with lots of oak, alcohol, leather and more roasted malt in the end. A bit dry ending. Has an oily mouth feel, and a medium to heavy lasting bitterness. The stout has a fantastic aroma but the flavour doesn’t follow up with some strange woody bitterness.
