Aroma has Islay whisky, some peat, oaky notes, hints of vanilla and licorice. Flavour has somewhat stinging whisky, peat, some smoky notes, licorice, hints of herbs and vanilla. Too strong on whisky like the Highland edition. And this is also worse than the original – the whisky used in this one is better though.

Bottle thanks to ericandersnavy. The look is brown to black in color, dark, and has a beige colored head. The smell is plastic, roasty, ash, sharpie, peaty, and wood. The taste is peaty, malts, and ok.

Received a 500 ml bottle via trade with Papsoe. Pours an opaque dark brown colored brew with a thin beige head that slowly dissipates to a film top and minimal lacing. Aroma of in your face peated malt, light smoked wood, burnt ash, a hint of chocolate, iodine and sea salt. Taste is full bodied, quite smooth with flavors of Islay smoked peat, light coffee, and iodine. Finish is very smooth, a touch dry, lots of peated malt aftertaste, sea salt, coffee and dark chocolate. One of the best Islay peated dark beers I’ve ever tried.

Black colour with a small beige head that leaves some lacing. Rich peat, whiskey and roasted malt aroma. Full body and slightly sweet. Wow this was not for the faint hearted. Lovely "sipper". You do not really need food. It is enough with this one. Rich dark malt, peat, whiskey and coffe flavour. Warming and well hidden alcohol. Smooth carbonation.

Aroma: The smell is wet salt wood, peat, smoke and ashes. Reminds me of a sunny tared bridge on the west coast.
Appearance: The brew is clear but very dark brown, almost black, a small tan head that leaves some lacing and has very good curtains.
Taste: the taste starts sweet, dark syrup on dark sweet bread, ashes sprinkled with salt water and sea weed. Coffee, concrete and a smooth bitter finish perfects the experience.
Palate: Low carbonation, smooth oily and sticky, a warm fuzzy feeling with a hint of dryness.
Overall: A really fantastic near-Islay experience. Best brunch ever!
Note: Bottle shared at Bishops Arms Vasagatan. Reviewed 2011-11-23.

A-- Poured an oily black, just a few tints of red at the top of the head. Quick fading one finger, light brown head. Mostly a decent looking light brown collar. Dark oily substance left in glass after drinking beer. S-- Alcohol is very tempered in this. Lots of Islay scotch, wood, chocolate, smoked bacon, iodine and salt water. Really good nose. T-- Scorched chocolate, to varying degrees of scorching as well as chocolate. Got dark chocolate mostly. Was actually quite good. Lots of barrel notes. Roasted seaweed, iodine, saltwater, peat, wood, and roasted malts that were lightly scorched. M-- Full, luscious, rich, thick and and just plain good. Well balanced between the barrel and the beer O-- Really no oatmeal to speak of and the base beer was lost in a way as the Islay really dominated. What it left though was just plain good. Barrel took the beer to another level and the base beer is pretty darned good. To taste seaweed, iodine, and salt water was quite cool. Well balanced beer. Just not a good looking appearance. Otherwise an excellent beer

Bottle @ Mikkeller Bar. Deep black appearance with a slight, creamy dark brown head. Very nice peaty smoky, dark chocolate, very light coffee, right swampy aroma. Delicious Islay/peaty scotch, rich dark chocolate, very roasty flavor. Very smooth but unfortunately, the coffee is mostly though not completely gone.
