Brewed 090309, Tasted 1/13/13. Courtesy of Skyview. Black color with a small head. Smoky and medicinal aroma with noticeable peat character. Just a massive peat reak flavor. Fairly salty and medicinal. Moderately malty.

February 25, 2015. Bottle at home.
Black with a small creamy tan head. Aroma is dominated by peat with oak, vanilla, chocolate and coffee.Taste is medium sweet with light bitter roasted notes up front, the peat notes takes over more and more leading to a lingering peaty finish with chocolate and coffee. Medium to full bodied, creamy texture, soft carbonation.

330 ml (Green Keith Shore BA Brunch Weasel label) bottle from Mikkeller Shop mailorder, poured into a Spiegelau tulip. Jet black with thin tan ring. Aromas of big scotch and peat, smoke, subdued chocolate and coffee, . Tastes of mostly scotch and peat, some smoke, subdued chocolate and coffee. Medium-full body with a dry finish. Okay, better as it warms. Definitely a sipper with the huge scotch and peaty notes. Islay barrel takes too much of the base away.

Bottle, side by side with Brandy BA. Pitch black pour with a small tan head. Nose has loads of peat, sheep, wool, fishermen and other weird stuff. Taste has some light peat, roastiness, ground coffee and some licorice. The barrel character of the Islay barrels compliments this in a fine way.

Bottle at home. Poured pitch black. Smells sweet, a little bit smokey whiskey. Tastes of treacle, very sweet. After a while, the sweetness faded, and the coffee came through. I almost wonder if the bottle was labeled wrong and I got a different beer.

Bottle. Pours pitch black with a thick small mocca head. Aromas of smoke, tobacco, coffee, caramel, fudge, licorice. Taste is less smoke, still loads though, ugh. Just not me. Coffee, caramel, fudge, licorice.

Bottle from De Hopduvel, dark brown/black, brown foam. Soft carbonation. Very roasty aroma, malts and lots of coffee. Lots of peated whisky in the aftertaste. Full body. Very good.

Bottle @ Fermentoren, Århus. Pours pitch black with a small brown head. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee, expresso, peat, wood, smoke, rich Islay whiskey. Flavor is malty, coffee, peated, smoke, caramel, Islay whiskey, some booze. Full body, soft carboantion, warming alcohol. 220115

Bottle @ Fermentoren, Aarhus. Black with a dark brown head. Aroma is dry, roasted malt, coffee, chocolate and peat. Flavor is quite sweet and rather bitter. Dry and rather bitter finish with warming alcohol. 220115

(On tap @ Mikkeller Bar Stockholm, Dec 28 2014) Pours pitch black with a small medium tan head leaving a little lace. Aroma is super whiskey forward, with lots of smoky, peaty, woody aromas. The roast really comes through too, though not extremely strong coffee. Ashy. Some sweet chocolate and licorice. Taste is sensitive to temperature and I thought was most balanced on the cooler side. Lots of barrel on the palate at first, whiskey and wood with a peaty roast taste. It amplifies the pungent coffee, and lots of chocolate and dark malts at the core too. Smoke builds substantially towards the finish, which is dry and and carries some wood and a bit of roasty bitterness. Smoke became a bit overpowering as it warmed until the malt sweetness caught up. Medium full creamy oat mouthfeel with soft carb, no alcohol heat. This one took up tons and tons of barrel, really surprised me how much smoke and peat there was here - not for non-whiskey fans. Surprised it managed to support rather than blow out the coffee. Just tough to drink occasionally when the smoke became overbearing, but otherwise I loved it and wish I had drank it all a bit cooler. Neat stuff!
