3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: FEB 11, 2009 Bottle, from Julio’s drunk on 2.2.09.
A dark robe with a frail, receding tan head and plenty of sediment left at the bottom of the bottle.
Prunes and espresso-like notes, nice and oily, waft gently from the glass. A warm, rather inviting shot of ethanol emerges with warming and breathing. Surprisingly, there is almost no noticeable banana or cotton candy to the nose, which is impressive, being from a young bottle.
In the mouth, the pruniness and bittersweet roast notes lend momentum to the emerging roll of sweet, milk chocolate-like maltiness and obvious alcohol warmth on the finish. The residual sugars are very persistent (and in my mind, too excessive) and lightly fatigue the palate in to tasting only this dominant flavor, over the course of the beer (three of us split the bottle). Interesting notes of fudge, sweet almond and oily, bittersweet coffee beans, and I can’t admit to being terribly offended by the alcohol appearance, being quite light for this young and high abv of a beer. Good stuff, hopefully some more complexity will develop with age.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Tap pour - nearly black, almost zero head. Aroma is toasted/roasted malt, sweet chocolate, mild coffee. Flavor is very smooth - coffee a bit more muted than I anticipated...malts bordering on burnt...very roasty. Very easy drinking brew with a moderately oily palate. Very nice beer overall.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
330 ml bottle from Premier Gourmet. Pours an inky, nearly black dark brown with small brown head. Aroma is roasty with lots of treacle, anise, coffee and some dark fruit. Flavour is very rich and moderately roasty with treacle, anise and coffee very prominent and a subtler dark tree fruit note. Alcohol is quite well hidden for ABV. Impressive.

Probada en grifo en Barcelona Beer Festival. Una de las mejores Imperial Stouts que he probado, a pesar de estar muy mal tirada en BBF. amplio aroma y sabor a torrefacto, quizá en este caso el exceso de alcohol sea un defecto

26.2.2015. Black beer, no head. In aroma, first comes coffee beans, also roasted burnt malts. Taste has dark malts, coffee, roast, also sth spice almost like chili a bit, especially in the beginning. Milk chocolate, oats. Perfect balance.

Damp concrete nose. No head. Deep rich coffee earth on the balance supported by a blanket of richness to balance a slightly less than full body. Good

4.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle into a snifter. Pours a beautiful deep brown with a lasting caramel head. Love the coffee flavor, not too strong and not bitter. Almost a sweetness to the nose with a very pleasant finish, looking forward to enjoying this beer again next year.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Wygląd: Zupełnie czarne, obfita, ciemno brązowa piana, duże pęcherzyki i syczy. Szybo znika całkowicie.
Aromat: Espresso, gorzka czekolada, stęchlizna i lekki alkohol.
Odczucie: Pełne-, wysycenie niskie+, lekko gryzące
Smak: Czekolada, wiśnie, kawa i likier kawowy

Strong bitter coffee aroma with slight chocolate mixed in too. Very dark brown color with not much head or lacing. Taste is of oatmeal, some vanilla, and coffee. Pretty thick mouthfeel with nice earthy bitter finish. Very well done stout!

4.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 20/20
Chocolate, coffee, a bit smokey flavor. Really thick oily character. Fresh a bit raw - but after a few months in bottle its velvety smooth. Hands down one of the best beers i have ever tried.

4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Tasted from draft at Hunahpu Day. Pours black with a dark brown head. Coffee and dark chocolate aroma is huge. Taste is incredible. Great coffee flavor throughout with dark chocolate and a little vanilla. Very smooth hiding the alcohol extremely well. Nice thick and oily mouthfeel. I've head several of the famous imperial stouts but I think this may be my favorite.
