COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Formerly brewed by Mikkeller at Nøgne Ø, Norway, now at Lervig, Norway.
This imperial Oatmeal stout is brewed with one of the world’s most expensive coffees, made from droppings of weasel-like civetcats. The fussy Southeast Asian animals only eat the best and ripest coffee berries.Enzymes in their digestive system help to break down the bean. Workers collect the bean-containing droppings for Civet or Weasel Coffee. The exceedingly rare Civet Coffee has a strong taste and an even stronger aroma.
Ingredients : Water, malts, hops, yeast and Vietnamese ca phe chon coffee.

Draft taster at Bavarian Lodge. A solid black body and dark brown head. The smell is light coffee, with a slight tang of… orange peel. The first sip kind of vibrates on my tongue. The coffee aspect is mild, yet spicy. Like a light roast Sumatra coffee, and none of the roast malt of the usual strong stout. Light on alcohol. Some vanilla notes midway through my glass. After taking my notes, I looked up more details on this coffee, and found that "weasel coffee" is supposedly made much more mellow, even fermented, by enzymes during its trip through the critter’s GI. Not having tried the actual coffee, I can only say it’s reported characteristics come out very nicely in this beer. I’ve also learned that Vietnamese researchers have isolated the enzymes that make the coffee and may be mass producing it, as the ca phe chon civet is possibly endangered.

Undated bottle.
Glass: Duvel tulip.
Appearance: Black body with a dark tan head. The head is short and short lived though.
Aroma: A prominent aroma of wet dog, faint coffee and chocolate, both a bit stale with a bit of cracker and lactose. Possibly old.
Taste: Dark chocolate is mild but provides a dry bitter base with faint coffee and roasted malts, a hint of chocolate sweetness, but overall a bit stale and mild.
Palate: Full-bodied to thick, mild carbonation.
Overall: Possibly an old bottle, or this is much different than I remember. Either way I won’t buy this again unless I’m sure that it’s fresh.

Syrup liquid with tiny brown head. Non transparent at all, very dark. Noble chocolate is dominant plus civecats luxurious coffee, which I never tried, but I think I can say now what is the taste of it. Bitter sweet and strong in alcohol. Just a hint of liquorice and sultanas raisin - or not, I can not decide because od divine complexity born from unique simplicity. Very expensive, but I doubt this type if beer can be cheaper. Simply glorious.

Pitch black color with beige head and huge lacing. Aroma is complex and subtle, the coffee is not too dominant. Very smooth and round taste, and then there?s a spice catch, some booze, a bit warming towards the end. Very slightly sourish indeed. Oatmeal present as well in the texture. Not overwhelmed, but not underwhelmed as well. Probably deserves its Top50 status. Amazingly smooth and balanced. Nice foamy carbonation.

Bottle. Pitch black pour with tiny dark brown head that diminish fast. Aroma is intense with loads of liquorice, coffee and caramel. Still with a freshness to it. Taste is very balanced with no hints about the high ABV. Starts with some coffee and ends with a very long lasting liquorice note. Not sweet, not overly bitter, just very plesent and complex. Oily texture. Medium carbonation.

Bottle from Koht. My first and last Kopi Luwak beer... Pours a reddish black colour with a brief tan head. Some tiny bits floating on the surface. Smells like raw coffee beans and chocolate - it’s really uplifting... sweet with some raw bitterness. Tastes... so full... chocolaty sweet, a lot of coffee bitterness, even a bit salty. Tingling alcoholic warmth in the throat. Sticky, but short of syrupy. Makes my lips stick on the glass. Vinous. Damn good.

Pretty smooth and delicious stout. Deep black pour - thick. Espresso and chocolate. Taste is decadent blend. Slightly sour finish. Balanced well, full bodied. Great!

Bottle, Malting Pot. Black, tiny brown head. Aroma coffee, wild cherries in alcohol. Very little carbonation, strong lacing. Taste follows the aroma - bitter, sweet&sour, finish distinctly bitter, mainly coffee. Very nice, but I preferred the Beer Geek Breakfast that I sampled recently. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap @ Kufle i Kapsle. Pours pitch-black, small beige head. Aroma of coffee, marzipan, vanilla, chocolate candy bar. Feels almost as if it was barrel aged. In taste it’s sweet and chocolate-y. Velvety texture, full-bodied. Very drinkable. Great.
