COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Formerly brewed by Mikkeller at Nøgne Ø, Norway, now at Lervig, Norway.
This imperial Oatmeal stout is brewed with one of the world’s most expensive coffees, made from droppings of weasel-like civetcats. The fussy Southeast Asian animals only eat the best and ripest coffee berries.Enzymes in their digestive system help to break down the bean. Workers collect the bean-containing droppings for Civet or Weasel Coffee. The exceedingly rare Civet Coffee has a strong taste and an even stronger aroma.
Ingredients : Water, malts, hops, yeast and Vietnamese ca phe chon coffee.

A very impressing brew! When I translated the Danish comment on the bottle, my wife suddenly lost her appetite, though :p

Bottle. Flown all the way from Copenhagen. Thanks muzz. Jet black, mocha coloured head that dissipates quickly. Medium lacing. Aromas of espresso, vanilla, dark chocolate, ever so slight whiff of smoke and some citrus. Rich espresso flavours up front, followed by citrus hop bitterness, coffee acidity, vanilla and big roasty finish with significant bitterness. The heavy alcohol is barely detectable. Perhaps a little hop forward through the middle for me, but a delicious, complex beer.

33 cl bottle from Mile High Wine & Spirits for $9.99. Thick black appearance with a lingering brown head and light lacing. Aroma and flavor of coffee, molasses, dark chocolate, roasted malts and earthy bitterness. Mild to medium sweetness. Full bodied with a nice thick mouth feel. The coffee aspect is mild. Pretty good stuff overall.

Bottle. Dark black bodie with nice brown not very long lasting head. Aroma is coffee roasted malts, vanilla and some cocoa. Taste is roasted malts with some bitter Espresso some caramell some vanilla and some dried fruits. Very rich and complex taste. Aftertaste is bitter with bitter coffee and hints of sweetness. I think the bottle was a little bit to fresh, it would be more balanced in a year or so.

12oz bottle. Pours black with a very thin, tan head. Aroma has huge notes of dark chocolate, roasted malts, and coffee. Almost like cookie dough. Taste is a big espresso bitter. Big dark chocolate and milk chocolate, coffee, and espresso aftertaste. Slight alcohol warmth. Full body with a medium carbonation. Big full mouth feel. Almost syrupy but not sweet. Overall very nice. Huge chocolate and coffee flavours with a massive, full mouth feel. Awesome!

Black colour and a massive, coffee-coloured head. Full aroma of roasted malts and coffee. The taste is a striking mixture of a full, bitter hop flavours, sweet oatmeal, and dark chocolate, dried fruit and coffee. Very full, extremely complex and smooth, with excellent balance. The finish is the longest I have experienced. The taste lingers in the mouth for an age. The beer continues to improve in the glass as it warms. This example was brewed at the Lervig brewery and from a 33cl bottle. A wonderful, characterful beer.

Bottle. Black with a creamy light-brown head. Aroma is coffee, dark chocolate, burnt breadish, rich and inviting in the way that a dark alleyway in a good dream is inviting. The flavour has notes of vanilla, sweet chocolate, flipping over to a massive dark roast coffee side with dark roast to burnt malts and bitter cocoa. Creamy and full texture, this beer also has a drinkability that is at odds with its complex palate. Rich, refined, and smooth, magnificent stuff.

Brewed at Lervig. Black. Quickly diminishing brown head. Aroma of roasted barley, dark chocolate and strong coffee. Also a hint of dark caramel and dates. Full, and similar taste and aftertaste, superbly balanced with bitterness. An enourmously enjoyable beer, still having a good drinakbility despite its strong taste and high ABV

Mine says brewed at Lervig, not Nogne. Maybe it has changed recently. Better than the Austmann stout I just had. The head looks a bit cheap, it’s not thick and it disappears quickly. Very much coffee and bitter.
