4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle from Davis Beer Shoppe. Just from the pour I knew this beer was going to be amazing. Just like the name says the vanilla flavor was there. It's a bit strange for something this dark to taste like vanilla.

5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 20/20
Black stout with beautiful nougat colored foam. The aroma is hard roasted malt with distinctive scent of chocolate. The taste varies over slightly bitter cocoa beans, dark rich chocolate, a little smoke and a filling which is creamy with a little tang of vanilla. Extremely delicate and very potent imperial stout which is for long-term drinking. Certainly a beer that deserves full marks.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20

4.5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle, 330 ml. Pours pitch black and completely opaque. Small amount of dark tan head forms at first but doesn’t stick around. Strong notes of chocolate cake on the nose, alongside other chocolate-based notes such as chocolate milkshake or hot chocolate powder, while the coffee note is subtle, compared to the brunch weasel. Fudge/caramel elements emerge later, and then come some less sweet notes such as mature cheddar, roast beef/roast beef crisps, gravy granules, some hints of spice, earth, and finally a burnt, woodsmoke-esque edge to the whole thing. Some of these take a while to emerge so would recommend letting this one warm up a bit. Booze is remarkably well hidden given the ABV, only occasionally cutting through the rest of the aroma. Huge, extremely bitter hit of roasted malt in the initial tasting, which mellows out a bit for the rest of the during while maintaining a lingering presence. Sticky toffee pudding and molasses come through around the mid point, balancing out the bitterness of the roasted malt nicely. The roast beef hints from the aroma make their much appreciated return. These notes stick around for the finish which is long and sticky and leaves a lingering bitterness. Alcohol barely even registers until the psychoactive effects start to kick in, and there’s no burn whatsoever. Can’t really taste any of the advertised vanilla at the moment but that hardly matters when everything else is this good. Body is full, and the texture is thick, slick and goes down a treat. There’s even a slight hint of carbonation, which is interesting but doesn’t really affect the overall package. Pretty much everything an imperial stout should be, and moreso. Mikkeller are wizards.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
UPDATED: JUN 29, 2015 Thick black body, large sticky head. Sticky is the general word that applies here, with dark sugar, dough, chocolate, vanilla, cookie, brownie, sweet cream. Great amount of flavours, although sweetness sticks out. Dessert beer. No, it?s desserts by itself. (33cl bottle from Saveur Bière)

4.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
12 oz bottle I got in a trade off of Facebook, big thanks to Mr. Antonio Castillo. The pour is dark and oily black with a finger of dark mocha head and no lace some great lacing. The aroma is something else. It smells like a boozy vanilla coffee shake. The roast is beautiful and the vanilla is a little reserved but the coffee is there, a great sweetness on the back end from the vanilla. I wish it smelled a little more vanilla-ish. There is a decent booze on the back end. The flavor is unbelievable. Lots of vanilla, tons of coffee, a beautiful roast, little bitterness from licorice. The booze isn’t detectable. The mouth feel is thick, chewy, with a soft velvety carbonation that is great. The aftertaste is lingeringly coffee and vanilla with a bitter roast. Damn good ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle (330 ml) bought @ Craft Beer Cellar Waterbury. Split 2-ways with Minderbinder.
Appearance: Pitch black with a small white head, medium retention, some lacing and little alcohol legs.
Aroma: A ton of vanilla (really intense) and quite a lot of coffee along chocolate notes, light fruitiness and hints of alcohol.
Taste: Really sweet with loads of vanilla, a lot of coffee as well, light frutiness, chocolate, alcohol, hazelnuts, alcohol and caramel.
Palate: Full body. Moderate carbonation. Oily and rather thick mouthfeel. Lingering sweet finish with a bit of alcohol warmth.
Overall: It’s really tasty and it definitely lives up to the name and showcase the vanilla but it’s really sweet and rather cloying (it wasn’t easy to drink half the bottle). Flavorful, but a bit unbalanced. Good stuff!
