(bottle) pours black in colour with a creamy brown head. aroma of milk chocolate and tropical fruit, heavily resinous, with a hint of coffee, caramel, sugar icing and roasted malts. flavour is mostly raisins, vanilla and roasted malts, quite sweet, with lots of coffee, herbal hops, a hint of mango and a medium-bitter finish. medium to heavy-bodied with soft carbonation.

Interesting one here, I was looking for the difference between this and BGB, and using common sense, I thought it would be the addition of hops due to the name, sort of a black IPA but more on the roasted side than hoppy side. Although that is what Mikkel was trying for on this one, I’m not sure the profile works well. Trying to improve on BGB is a tough proposition, and I normally welcome the addition of hops to any beer but not this time.

Aroma: roasted malts, some smoke/burnt notes. Appearance: clear black with large creamy head. Taste: heavy sweet. Palate: hops, roasted flavours coming up, quite some bitterness. Overall: great Stout - very complex aromas and flavours. Bottle at the Craft Beer Co. Clerkenwell, London.

330ml bottle from Vinmonopolet. Small light brown head. Solid black body. Aroma of hops, coffee, sour herbs, roasted malt and yeast. Sour on the tongue, a little malt sweetness. Smoke. Slightly bitter aftertaste. Very well balanced.

Notes of coffee and nuts. Good bitterness from the hops. Just wish it were a little thicker.

A pretty interesting beer. I?d call it more of a black IPA, definitely has a strong taste of stout and IPA. Has a nice sweet stout taste.

Looks.. Very dark viscous brown/black, medium sized fluffy brown tan head that thins but lasts.. loads of lacing. Smells.. Mix of piney hops, maybe some grapefruit citrus, roasted oat some choc and generous coffee. Tastes..slightly fruity and piney hop flavours with roasty grains, malts and coffee. Consumed and loved for breakfast before the Perth’s ’last’ ’ big day out festival’.

Aroma is smoked malts, almost like peat, raisins and coffee and toffee. Very dark brown to jet black with a medium brown head. Piney hope presence mixes with smoked malt character and bitter coffee on the finish that is not overpowering. Mouth feel is light like a regular IPA. Overall a very unique beer, as with most Mikkeller beers. Not sure I like the smokiness because it is reminiscent of a Rauchbier.
