3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle from Discount Waukesha, cellar aged about 2 months. Pours a viscous black with a brown head leaving a lot of streaks of lace. Aroma has green rich espresso, something herbal, possible citrus and, later, pine. Taste is of bitter chewy coffee beans, heavy roast, faint grapefruit and some sprucey pine. Most heavily the bitter bean with strong roast. Super coffee-ish. Full bodied and quite bitter. Finishes strongly bitter with hints of sweetness. Not sure on age - that certainly could have killed the hops. Nonetheless, a super bitter, solidly tasty brew. In this state, a stout of some sort. Too hopless to be a black ipa.

Bottle at home. Looks tasty. Pretty much black with a medium sized tan head. Aroma is lovely and hoppy with chocolate and coffee. Flavour more lovely hops, roasted malts, bit of fruit, nice dry bitter finish. Well nice.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pour from bottle - jet black with small amount of dark tan head.
Aroma - caramel malt, coffee, citrus hops, maple syrup, musty yeast when swirled in the glass.
Taste - anything sweet in the aroma is barely present on the tongue. Bitter, burnt toast with deep roasted coffee and a brief taste of dark fruit. Hops give a little citrus bite.
Palate - medium bodied, oily mouthfeel, medium carbonation, long, very, bitter aftertaste.
Good quality beer. Very enjoyable bitterness and coffee taste, but the aroma is what I really enjoyed most about this beer. A beer I will frequently be on the lookout for.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: MAY 17, 2014 Pours a really dark brown - might as well say black - with a medium brown head that leaves impressive lacing. Nose is of roasted coffee, pungent hops and green bell peppers. Taste is spicy/peppery with some nice cold coffee flavors (not stale). Mouthfeel is fresh even if body is really full. Carbonation is moderate. I came in with no expectations and I found a really nice Black IPA. I’m usually a bit skeptic about the whole cascadian dark ale thing but this one worked quite well!

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
J’ai eu la chance d’y goûter, et j’ai adoré l’expérience. Le meilleur d’une stout avec bon goût torrifié et des arômes houblonnés. J’écris cette critique pour me souvenir de l’avoir bu un jour.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
500ml bottle. Pours black with a frothy, two finger, mocha head that thins to a thick coating. Lots of snap, crackle, and pop going on. Aroma has notes of roasted malts, coffee, bitter chocolate, and a noticeable hop presence. Taste is, wow. Big, hoppy start that quickly goes to chocolate and roasted malt, then ends with a big, espresso bitterness. Honestly one of the more complex tastes I’ve had. Medium body and carbonation. Pretty clean in the mouth with a fairly dry finish. Overall a pretty good beer. Exactly what it is described as. A big, hoppy, oatmeal stout with coffee.
