Pours hazy brown color with small head. Aroma of hoppy fruits, a bit too hoppy for a stout. Flavor of roasted malts, hoppy fruits and chocolate. The elements of regular beer geek breakfast can be found beyond the hops.

Bottle from Asahiya. Big citrus hop and coffee nose. Lovely lace runs down the glass after swirling. Pitch black. Astringent and citrusy hops go very with the coffee flavors. Rich burnt malts. A very nice beer.

Bottle. Jet black pour with a dense dark tan coloured head. Very fine lacing. Aromas are dominated by espresso coffee with a hint of vanilla ice cream in support. Initial flavours are quite sweet with some roasted grain and a little acidity. Resiny bitter finish. Nice beer.

500mL bottle pours pitch black like motor oil with tan head and a heavy coffee/hop aroma very nice. Straight a bit of warmth, then a raging coffee hit with a slight hop flavour on the back end. Iím enjoying this beer.

Picked this up for about $10 at Hunger Mountain co-Op in Vermont. Poured into a basic glass tulip.

A - I thought Iíve seen motoro oil pitch black beers before. This owns the category. This is an twilight black beer just completely oily and viscous into the bottle. Produced a 2-finger coffee colored head with a mix of thick and creamy bubbles and the head stayed around for a very long time.

S - Smoked malts, chocolate malts and simcoe hops completely dominate this beer. Thereís some coffee scent in here as well.

T - Coffee and chocolate at first taste followed by an eruption of hops that pass over the tongue and make it dance. Iím pretty amazed at the mix of coffee, chocolate, smoked malts and hops. Most breakfast stouts donít have a big hop profile but this does. Itís a very unique beer. Not that boozy. I donít taste the alcohol at all and no legs on the glass.

M - 60/40 carbonation to liquid on a mouth swish. Heavy in body and a very hoppy syrupy linger at the finish.

O - Pretty damn good.

Very dark brown pour with decent brown head. Honestly, Iím barely picking up the hop on the aroma. And on the flavor it only comes across as extreme bitterness. Mildly green, but mainly just woody. Dries out the mouth. Not as great as I had hoped.

500ml bottle from bierkompass.de
The beer in the glass is pitch black with a dark brown creamy head. It smells very roasted coffee-like, intensiv malty, strong hoppy. Starts very grassy-hoppy, with a lot of citrus, combined with powerful aromas of coffee and a massive maltbody. The middle part is very bitter hoppy, lots of citrus and grapefruit. The hops are surpassed by the massive roast coffee flavors! In the finish, the bitter hop flavors dominate, it is very bitter and dry. The roasted coffe is hardly noticeable in the finish!

Poured into a pint glass from a 650ml bottle with no date.

A: Dark brown body with a towering brown rocky head, very nice looking beer.

S: Marijuana is the first thing that comes to mind. The hop profile is incredibly fresh and earthy, which reminds me of marijuana. Thereís a strong coffee aroma to this under the hops.

T: Very hop heavy, fresh and earthy with a flavor that reminds me of marijuana again. The coffee flavor is balanced well with the hops, very strong as well though. This is a beer with intense flavor, though the hops throw me off.

M: Full-bodied with lazy carbonation, a bit syrupy.

O: I just canít get over the hop profile here, it threw me off. I enjoyed this somewhat, but wonít be buying it again.

Bottle. Black with resilient tan head and good lacing. A remarkable brew. Lovely sweet hoppy nose. Flavour has some espresso swamped in dense, dusty swamp hops which leads it merrily to a mighty bitter finish. Almost too bitter for my liking. What a beer though.

ROGUE (2182) - Lewes, Delaware, USA - MAR 6, 2012
500ml bottle. Poured a jet black color with a big, tan colored, foamy, long lasting head and very good lacing. Aroma of fresh citric grapefruit, tangerine and piny hops, along with roasted malts and dark chocolate. Taste starts with dark roasted malts and a little bit of dark chocolate. Then the big grapefruit and piney hops kick in. It finishes off with a hint of coffe peeking in through the finish. Thick and chewy with medium carbonation.
