[500ml bottle, Drinkmonger Edinburgh] Black pour with a huge tan head. Roasty aroma at first, then a huge hop hit on the nose. Sharp and roasted flavours mingle throughout - plenty of coffee on the aftertaste, but with a biting hop background. Fascinating to get both halves together. For me, it works [29012012]

I wanted to like this beer as I love this series, I just didn’t like how the big hoppiness melded with the stout flavors. Aroma was big and delicious. Big rich milk chocolate, burnt roasted coffee and green hops. Pour was a beautiful deep dark brown/near black with a puffy one finger cherry head that laced all the way down the glass. Taste seemed very muddled. The strong coffee and roasted malt filled the mouth with bitterness from the start. The chocolate notes were gone. The hops come in mid-swallow with grapefruit rind and lemon. The mouth is left dry and extremely bitter. The flavors don’t compliment each other, they clash. Nice carbonation.

AROMA: Big notes of chocolate and roast, citrusy hops APPEARANCE: black as coal with a 1" pillowy tan head TASTE:Big sweet malt note and coffee, with an immediate bitter from the hops. caramel, toffee, and as it warms, dates and plums with a lemony tinge at the end from the lupelins PALATE: thick, almost chewy as it warms.lively carbonation and a bitter hop finish OVERALL: A very interesting beer, not like any other i have had, very hoppy stout, in nice balance with big maltiness and big hops to balance. Defies styles, in fact it arrogantly spits in it’s face. I love all Mikkeller beers that I have tried to date, this is one of the best.

From a bottle. Pours black with tight tan head. Citrus hop aroma with some chocolate and licorice. Taste is a perfectly balanced explosion of citrus hops up front followed by chocolate and then a licorice molasses finish. Fairly bitter and full bodied. Delish

UPDATED: JAN 19, 2012 Really odd...lots of peppery hops, grassiness, citrus with only a hint of coffee. Like chewing on a hop cone but truly nothing enjoyable about this one. Acidic with tons of bitterness. Dark mahogany pour but nothing else speaks to this being a stout. Shockingly bad.

Bottle, at local tasting. ABV 7.5%. Black colour, large beige head. Typical American IPA aroma, piney and resinous notes, hints of catpiss. Moderate coffee notes. Roasty flavour, strong coffee notes, also plenty of resinous hops.

Pours solid black with two finger caramel colored head. Hoppy nose with cocoa and black licorice. Roasted malts, bitter hops, cocoa and coffee flavors. Smooth, slightly thin mouthfeel with "oatmeal" texture in middle. Hoppy bitterness lingers on finish. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
