Purchased at Discount Liquor in Milwaukee. Pours with a generous amount of thick, dense head leaves a beautiful layer of doily-esque lacing. Strong aroma of coffee, butterscotch, caramel, roasty chocolate and some oily hopiness. Hopiness very apparent on first sip; nice bitterness along with a thin coffee roastiness and minerality. More watery in texture than expected after that full smell. Malted, powdery sweetness is faint but a nice undertone. The hops bitterness really dominates, especially in the finish. I can’t really point to anything wrong about the beer, but my own personal preference is for a less watery mouthfeel. Otherwise, the flavors are intense and pretty well-defined.

Emphasis on the word ’hop’. This beer is all hops and not much else. Very disappointed.

Pour is pitch black with a thin, half-finger wide tan head. The head fades quickly but leaves fantastic lacing on the glass. Aroma is very hoppy compared to the other versions (surprise, surprise), with some roasted malts and coffee in the background. Flavor is citrus and bitter and first but transitions into a nice roasted/dry malty finish. Notes of coffee grounds, caramel, and pine needles. Smooth, medium bodied.

500ml bottle. Pours pitch black with a cappuccino colored head with large bubbles rimming the glass. Aroma of espresso, chocolate, smoke, dark malts, and Simcoe hops. The initial taste crushes the palate with huge roasted coffee, pine/citrus hops, and dark chocolate. Slick & oily, yet slightly creamy mouthfeel. Lingering resiny hop aftertaste. A slow sipper for sure.

Bottle to snifter. Pours somewhat oily black brown with a big foamy tan head that slowly fades to a sticky lacing and film. Aroma is roasted malt coffee and cardboard with a hop presence. Taste is rich bitter bakers chocolate and coffee as well with roasted malt and a citrus floral hoppiness that seems mixed with grapefruit, piny cardboard. Palate is full and creamy with a gentle fizz and finishes chaulky dry. Really strong variation of a black IPA that has an awesome bitterness. I really enjoyed this!
