bottle from pearl street bev, vt shared with seb A: initially roasty/ coffee then caramel with some piney / citrusy note from the hops. It’s more on the malt than hops. App: pitch black with lasting beige head. T/P: body is full finish being bitter and long. Carbonation is average. O: Excellent love the malts on that one really classy and sexy. Nice find will like to have again.

Great Oatmeal stout. It has the characteristics of a good Cascadian Dark Ale (CDA) due to its introduction of slight hops to the dark brown/black smooth roasted body

The aroma has a tinge of coffee. This beer pours a deep/dark color with minimal head retention and some visible lacing. Thin on the palate, very drinkable and very present hop character for a stout. Nice beer!

50cl bottle. Pours pitch black with a medium brown head. Long lasting foam. Aroma is more on the IPA side with pine, resin, wood and smoke. Taste is more on the Stout side with lots of roasted notes, wood, smoke, licorice and some hoppy pine and resin. Thick mouthfeel and gentle carbonation. Overall, a nice brew, but not as balanced as some other in the style: aroma of IPA with taste of Stout. Still worth the try to me.

500ml bottle pours black in color with about 2 fingers of light brown head with good retention and nice lacing. Aroma is roasted malts and a trace of aromatic hops. Taste is bold dark roasted malty bitterness balanced with some light malty sweetness and finishing with a bold spicy hop bitterness. A lovely stout with a bunch of hops added for an extra kick. Very interesting.

Courtesy of Sledutah, thanks Craig! Pours deep dark mahogany with ruby red edges and tan head. The aroma has dark roasted malts, dark roasted coffee goodness, some burnt malts and a sense of chili peppers. The taste is full of boldness with dark roasted malts, dark roasted coffee, spicy black strap molasses and spicy black licorice. This beer offers full-up roasty goodness with near robust levels of spicy Mt. Hood like hoppiness. Tasty stuff indeed.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Had this one for breakfast yesterday. Pours a big thick black with huge lasting tan head. Smell is big citrus and pine hops with equally big coffee, chocolate and roastiness. Pungent hop taste being quite bitter, but the stout quality kicks in as well. Chocolate, earthy, coffee. Really nice beer and seems much bigger than your typical black ipa.

Pours completely black with light brown rocky head and great retention. Aroma is chocolate cake, some smoke, tons of coffee, hint of licorice, hops are barley noticeable. Taste is chocolate coffee cake with somewhat of an alcoholic roasted smoke note; hoppy but in a resinous and piney way, definetly no citrus action here. Body is full, creamy, bitter (both roasty and hoppy), below average carbonation, dry roasty bitter finish. Overall, pretty good but doesn’t quite measure up to Beer Here’s Dark Hops, which is in my opinion THE benchmark for black IPAs. But then again, this isn’t really a black IPA so much as a strong Oatmeal stout.
