Tap @ beer temple - rich black body, medium brown head. Aroma is more akin to an IPA whilst the taste brings you into imperial stout territory. The result of which is impressive, potent bitterness, both from malts and hops

Bottle @ home. Black appearance with a brown head that dissipates fairly quickly. Roasty dark chocolate malts, coffee, mildly piney hoppy nose. Piney hoppy bitter, dark chocolate malty, coffee flavor with a fairly bitter coffee hoppy finish.

Very dark brown I’d almost call it black. Thick chocolate brown crown floating on top. Grapefruit, hoppy coffee aroma, with a familiar aroma I can’t place or even name but I know I know it, you know what I mean, you know? Burnt sugar and weird funk also is noticeable. This hop coffee combo is working for where others of this type have failed. Taste is just a mess, massive coffee hints of fruity citrus hops. A camp fire charcoal lingers forever in the after taste with a massive brutal bitter. I’m picking up a very odd sour flavor in the beer what would be easy to overlook unless you try hard to find it. beer is okayish…………… I can tell this is high quality but I’m not sure this is my cup of tea. I both like and dislike this beer its changing from sip to sip back and forth. The warmer the beer gets the more I like it the citrusy hops start to vanish and the bitter mellows with more of a chocolate coffee malt come on through. I guess I like it, maybe?, ya I like it.

12/13/11/13/14/13

Bottle. Pours with an opaque black body. Dark enough to eliminate any highlights on the edges. A massive, retentive, creamy brown head sits on top. Good lacing. Aromas are bready, malty, roasty, cookies, molasses, coffee with a large quantity of American hops. Citrus, orange, grapefruit qualities. Herbal. Lightly estery. Flavors are bitter (hop), with a huge note of coffee, and roast. A bit of a dark roast acidic astringency. Bready, malty, huge coffee flavor. Intense. Light tobacco in the finish. Some minerality on the tongue. Decidedly bitter balance. Minimal esters. Some fruit hop flavors. Lasting bitter finish. Medium to full body, creamy, medium carbonation. Astringent. Slightly warming. Finishes somewhat dry for a bigger stout.

UPDATED: MAY 21, 2011 Keg at BrewDog Edinburgh. Pour is "Mikkeller Black," with a good couple centimeters brown head. Smell is hops, something smoky, some coffee and a hint of sweet chocolate/vanilla. Taste is sweet to start, balanced by a massive bitterness. A really interesting beer, well-balanced and tasty. UPDATED: bumped up the scores a bit, like this a lot.

Bottle. Poured that coffee soda dark black like most of this series.Nose is coffee, dark roasted malt with a Huge hop charector added.flavor follows that nose. The hops truly intesify creating an additional bitterness to the huge finish of this. Quite delicious.

One of the prettiest beers I’ve ever poured. Smells is staggering. Dark roasted malts, good hop backing, slight chocolate behind. Taste is bitter hops, coffee, roasted malt and some smoke flavor. Really good, my first Mikkeller, but not my last.
