(bottle - 500 ml) Dark black pour with a thin and lasting tan head. Big hoppy aroma with some mild coffee underneath it. Bitter hops at the start that turns into a very nicely roasted coffee middle, but then goes back to a bitter hop finish. Almost like a very heavily roasted black IPA.

Bottle from Bacchanalia, Cambridge, 03.06.11 consumed with friend Trevor 17.06.11 Pours black with a beige head, this is a roasty and hoppy number with pine and citrus flavours combining surprisingly well with the roasty coffee flavours that provide the undercurrent to this beer. On tap at Cask Pub & Kitchen on 7th May 2011. Thick black with pale brown head and sporadic lacing. Sweetish malty aroma then BURST of delectable rich hoppiness and burnt malts. Rich coffee and grassy hoppiness transfer to a superbly intense rich finish that satisfies.

Bottle on sale at A Southern Season. Glad I picked this up. Pours thick black with a thin tan head appearing seconds after the pour but not sticking around in any substantial form for long. Nose is pungent green resiny hops, coffee and chocolate, and pleasant oatmeal/grain notes. This is a black IPA gone wild. Many brewers fail to mix these elements and just end up with a big, extreme beer that doesn’t taste that great, but everything in this beer is well integrated, and the whole transcends the parts. Full palate. Great beer.

Appearance : Deep black with medium foamy and creamy brown head. Some lacing.
Aroma : Great roasted malt with light chocolate and coffee. Resinous and piny hops.
Taste : Lots of hops with light roasted malt at first. Finish gets a bit more complex with light chocolate and coffee. Lots of piny and resinous hops. Quite a lot of alcohol too. Light rubbery notes.
Overall : Taste is a bit too hash for my taste. Nose is enjoyable. Alcohol is a bit too present. Not my thing at all.

Aroma is heavy hops; resin and citrus and coffee. Taste is hugely hoppy with a nice roasted flavor. Overall interesting good beer.

UPDATED: MAY 17, 2012 Bottle shared with friends at tasting. Pours black with medium brown head. Aroma is strong coffee and hops. Flavour is coffee, chocolate, caramel, malt all with a lovely hop bitterness over the top. Well balanced and with low carbonation. A great beer.

50cl bottle pours an oily, opaque black with a brown, thin head. Malty aroma, brown sugar, lightly hoppy, crackers. Flavor is sweet, chocolate, a little citrus, a little vegetal, malty, toast. Full bodied, sweet, lightly bitter finish.

Bottle shared by a friend. Black pour with small beige head now. Aroma of hot, spicy hops and anise. Huge licorice drowns out the coffee. Bitter, boozy, and bold. Flavor of bitter, grassy hops, alcohol, tobacco, and burnt malts. Top hot. This should sit longer to get better if at all. Slick and oily
