27th August 2014
Can. Hasy amber beer, tidy pale cream colour head. Palate is slightly airy with fine carbonation. Good malts, little toffee - caramel and light dry cream. Hops are piney with a touch of marmalade, mild spice. Light finish. Very well balanced and pretty drinkable.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Can Moderate roasted and caramel for the malt, heavy pine for the hops, light yeast notes of dough and soap, with hints of date and pepper. Head is large, frothy, off-white with good lacing and is mostly diminishing. Color is slightly hazy amber/orange. Flavor starts slightly sweet and lightly to moderately acidic, then finishes lightly acidic and moderately bitter. Palate is on the fuller side of medium, oily, with a lively carbonation and a dry finish. Another tasty IPA with a few unique qualities.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Mikkeller in a can. Kind of exciting. They say American IPA, but this has overseas all over it (even though it was brewed in PA). Darker than anything with "pale" in the name should be. Almost ruby red. Big sweet bready biscuity malts, a big body for the style, and a decent dose of tropical hops. Light pine in there too, but definitely heavier, darker and sweeter than is typical for the style. Nice change of pace, even though I prefer my west coast IPAs."

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Can: The aroma consists of caramel, toffee, and aged citrus hops. It pours a transparent dark amber with a large soapy off-white head that has excellent retention and leaves behind a lot of clumpy lacing on the sides of the glass. The flavor starts with caramel, light toffee, and a hint of fruit. The finish has moderate grapefruit (a little on the aged side) and lighter earthy hops. It’s light-medium bodied with mild carbonation and a slightly soft mouthfeel. Overall, too much caramel for an IPA, but not as horribly bad as a lot of IPAs.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
355mL can pours with a crystal clear deep copper body that has thin gold hues and supports a nice tan head of foam. The aroma offers up pine resiny hops, a dash of cherry meat and then a modest mix of roasted malts and earthy tea. The taste begins with a nice resiny pine hop bitterness backed up by a suitable malty sweetness that has a bit of crystal malts and biscuit malts going on. Into the finish a firm and pleasing earthy tea like hoppiness forces its way to the surface to add more balance and depth. I love how the pine gives way to malts and earthy dry tea.
