Bottle. Murky reddish amber pour with a monster foamy head. Looks amazing. Aroma is spicy, mild oak, and dark fruit. Nice complex taste - spices, sour, wine. Excellent brew!

On tap at Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Hazy dark brown colour, moderate off-white head. Distinct aroma of oak / red wine barrel, a hint of fusel alcohols. Also notes of dark dried fruits. The flavour is very oaky, the red wine barrel does indeed dominate. Decent hops in the finish. Warming mouthfeel. Very tasty and interesting!

38cl, new exclusive Danish brew Anno 2011, from De Hopduvel Gent, very complex brew, alcoholic/vinous and slightly woody/sweet, heavy, yet balanced, cloudy, good head, very good brew, yet very expensive!

375mL bottle, split with Matts_Property, pours a dark mahogany with a small beige head. Aroma brings out the red wine barrels, with loads of caramel malt, raisins, dates, figs, candied sugar and booze - quite hot. Flavour has been nicely massaged into a dry vinous dominated one, with dried fruits, toffee and booze. Dry, vinous, boozy palate, with a sort of muted aftertaste. Excellent.

Thanks to bu11zeye for sharing this bottle. The beer pours a brown color with a tan head. The aroma is full of red wine and oak notes, as well as some toffee and brown sugar. The flavor is very similar. I get a lot of molasses and fruity red wine notes, as well as some oak, maple, vanilla and the alcohol you would expect in a beer that clocks in at 12 percent. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation. A nice barleywine.

Bottle @ ZZT VII, thx to everyone for sharing their bottles. Lovely complex nose of caramel malt, raisin, red fruit. Frutiy in taste as well. Wonderful stuff.

On draft at Craft Beer Co. Sweet Christmas, this is a big beer. Pretty compelling appearance, a slightly sludgy reddish brown that almost looks like a really, really old wine (were it not for the carbonation). Fitting I guess. Nose was quite nice too, with some rich BW properties (though a bit of a boozy smack) complemented by a nice full tannic nose. Mouthfeel a bit too hot for me, but what are you gonna do at 12%? Flavors were good, with tons of wood and malt balanced well to avoid overpowering caramelly sweetness, and a nice strong red wine component that makes the base more fruity even as it adds a gentle tart note. Impressive beer.

Thanks to IBrew2or3 for the share. Pours hazy dark brown with a tanish/ khaki head. Nose is malt, wood, red wine (maybe a sweet cab sav?), vanilla, oak, and a vinous character that pervades the front and back, and some abrasive hop character. Flavor is caramel briefly in the front, followed quickly by oak and vinous character, dry cab, then abrasive bitterness and a dry finish. Enigmatic barley wine that borders on enjoyable.

On tap at Cardinal. Pours deep red/amber with a tiny white head. Aroma of wood, oak, sweet juicy red berries. Taste is vinous, oaky , lots of barrel here. Resinous end, some stinging nice mint at the final, which is lingering, bringing the mouthfeel dry and clean at the end, good one.

Pours a hazy ruby into a snifter. White head with little retention leaves pot lacing as it recedes to hug rim. Dark, dusty oak and pit fruit aromas. Sweet port and hot oak from front to back. Dry, sweet oak finish.
