Pours dark red color with a small head. Aroma of ripe fruits, some wood, mild malts and resin. Flavor of resinous hops, caramel malts, some wooden notes, toffee and mild vinous notes. Alcohol quite well hidden. Nice.

4/30/11. 375mL bottle courtesy mlunger12. Cloudy reddish pour with a small tan head that forms a ring and sticks. Huge aroma of alcohol, oak, vanilla, butter, and a hint of dark tannins. Sweet flavor upfront with awesome oak character - oak, vanilla, butter, coconut, and more. Way better flavor than aroma. Nice!

In short: A clash of stuff. A beer that shouldn’t be.
How: Bottle, Post-EBF hotel tasting
The look: Cloudy copper body topped by a medium beige head
In long: Strange nose of dank basement, booze and fruits. Taste just didn’t work for me. Clash of toasted caramelized malts, astringency, wood barrels, sweaty used jack-strap, too much booze, some cardboard, vinous notes, some tannins. I hope there was something wrong with this bottle. This is again barrel aging done without discernment, not any beer can be aged in any barrel. There was many disappointments at EBF this year, but most disappointing of all was me. Again.

Bottle. Pours brown with creamy off-white head. Aroma of malt, fruitiness, grains, caramel, some mint and yeast. Flavor is sweet and malty with some sweet red berries, wood, grapes and caramel. Full body, soft carbonation.Nice barley wine.

The beer pours a brown color with a tan head. The aroma is full of red wine and oak notes, as well as some toffee and brown sugar. The flavor is very similar. I get a lot of molasses and fruity red wine notes, as well as some oak, maple, vanilla and the alcohol you would expect in a beer that clocks in at 12 percent. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation. A nice barleywine.

Aroma is rather oaky with some red wine tones and hints of alcohol. Flavour has red wine, oak, some caramel and toffee-like ’Mikkeller house aroma’. Hides the alcohol relatively well. Not much of the original beer left. Better than I expected still.

Bottle. Cloudy medium brown with a creamy tan head. Sweet caramel toffee apple red wine and oak aroma and taste. Thick sticky palate. Quite good.

Bottle. Pours a hazy amber bruin body with an off white head. Red vinous wine notes, hints of caramel and dark fruit tones. Turpentine, very vinous and sweet boozy body. Really strong and boozy, so much that there seems little else to enjoy add the oxidation and well i was a bit let down.

On tap at Cardinal. Pours deep red/amber with a tiny white head. Aroma of wood, oak, sweet juicy red berries. Taste is vinous, oaky , lots of barrel here. Resinous end, some stinging nice mint at the final, which is lingering, bringing the mouthfeel dry and clean at the end, good one.
