77ships (4765) - Antwerpen, BELGIUM - JAN 19, 2014
375 ml. bottle sampled @ RBBWG 2014. Courtesy of & thx! to DomienS. Amber coper with little head. Smells of iron, sweet barrel, touch wine, lots of brown sugar, herbal, feels faded. Taste is bitter wine leaves, iron, sweetish, simple, leaves, bitter malts, cereal, some bitter hops in the back, plenty of brown sugar. Touch less carb. Not too impressive, wasnít to big of a fan of the regular one & this one is even a dash lesser. It is okay but it is too simple & underwhelming which is not something that a beer at this price point should be. Mikkeller has many other beers which deliver the good in a far more satisfying way than this one.

Pours a hazy ruby into a snifter. White head with little retention leaves pot lacing as it recedes to hug rim. Dark, dusty oak and pit fruit aromas. Sweet port and hot oak from front to back. Dry, sweet oak finish.

Thanks to IBrew2or3 for the share. Pours hazy dark brown with a tanish/ khaki head. Nose is malt, wood, red wine (maybe a sweet cab sav?), vanilla, oak, and a vinous character that pervades the front and back, and some abrasive hop character. Flavor is caramel briefly in the front, followed quickly by oak and vinous character, dry cab, then abrasive bitterness and a dry finish. Enigmatic barley wine that borders on enjoyable.

vyvvy (4523) - Florissant, Missouri, USA - JUL 4, 2011
Pours dark crimson / brown with a tan soapy head. The aroma has lots of deep caramel malt, richness, light barrel, cream, brown sugar, toffee and light hints of red wine. Full body with lots of smoothness and flowing semi-soft carbonation. The flavor starts sweet with brown sugar, lots of malt, alcohol warmth, caramel, toffee and a hint of oak. The finish adds some light red wine notes and is very woody and robust. Nice beer overall.

Bottle. Pours a deep, near-brown coppery amber body with a big creamy light beige head. Nose is oak tannins, caramel, alcohol, red wine and hints of brown sugar and burnt rubber. Taste is dry oak tones, red wine, caramel, burnt sugar, alcohol, bready grains and hints of bitter herbs in the finish. Full body, medium carbonation. Complex and nice, but perhaps a bit too high on bitter red wine/oak tannins; I generally prefer my barley wines a bit sweeter. Good stuff, though.

UPDATED: SEP 9, 2012
Location: Draft at Mission Dolores, 9/8/12

Aroma: Nose has strong booze and malt notes with some grape
Appearance: Pours a clearish dark caramel-orange color with a small beige head
Flavor: The taste has some sweet malts, some boozy flavors, light oak, and lightly tart
Palate: The body is fairly full and fairly hot, it has a soft carbonation, and a slightly hotter finish
Overall Impression: This one is really interesting and really boozy. Definitely a sipper. Iím glad I tried it. I canít imagine drinking much more then a small glass of this one.

375ml bottle

Pours dark reddish brown with a smooth white head. Aroma of caramely malts, vinous notes, wood, oak and berries. Taste is sweet, malty and vinous with notes of berries, wood and oak. Finish is stingy, sweetish, vinous and woody with notes of tart berries, caramel and oak. A bit unbalanced and stingy.

Bottle @ mr. Hangover tasting. Aroma is big caramel bready fruity hoppy notes. Fat fruity hoppy notes, followed by big alcoholic caramel bead notes. Long lingering bitter yet sweet hoppy malt goodness in the finish. Awesome.
