I wanted to like this more. Pours dark green-brown with no head. Aroma is alcohol, vanilla, fruit; nice in its simplicity. Taste is dry, spicy, strong, bitter, sour-ish, some fruit, some burn, bitter finish. Light, thin mouth feel.

Shared with Marko and Ogi. Pours light brown, not really lasting head. Nuts, hazelnut, jaffa cake. Taste: wine acidity, candy, licorice. Full body, hidden alcohol. So-so.

375 ml bottle into snifter, best before 12/17/2019. Pours slightly hazy dark ruby red/brownish color with a 1 finger dense light khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Nice dense soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Awesome appearance. Aromas of big grapefruit, orange peel, pineapple, mango, raisin, plum, pine, caramel, toffee, brown sugar, toasted biscuit, light nuttiness, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast/toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of citrus/pine hops, fruity yeast, and dark/bready malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big grapefruit, orange peel, pineapple, mango, raisin, plum, pine, caramel, toffee, brown sugar, toasted biscuit, light nuttiness, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast/toasted earthiness. Moderate pine/citrus rind bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, orange peel, pineapple, mango, raisin, plum, pine, caramel, toffee, brown sugar, toasted biscuit, light nuttiness, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/pine hops, fruity yeast, and dark/bready malt flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance and zero astringent hop flavors after the finish. Light-moderate dryness from bitterness that increases through the glass. Light-medium carbonation and fairly full bodied; with a very smooth, moderately sticky/resinous, and creamy/bready balanced mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a small warmth lingering after the finish. Overall this is a fantastic American barleywine! All around awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/pine hops, fruity yeast, and dark/bready malt flavors; and very smooth and easy to sip on for the big ABV. Definitely English yeast and malt flavors going on, but it still stays true to the American style on the aggressive citrus/pine hop character. A highly enjoyable offering.

Bottle. Not sure of the age, but I think it might be from the 2007 edition. Corked and caged with silver foil, if that’s a clue? Anyway, it pours a deep purple-brown colour with absolutely no carbonation and some small floaties - poured it carefully, and left behind a lot of sludge in the bottom of the bottle. Aroma of dark dried fruit - figs, dates, prunes - and oxidized port. Flavour follows with the same notes, along with some coffee and dark cocoa in the finish, and lingering sweet raisin. No hops to speak of, and surprisingly smooth given the abv. Very enjoyable!

2007 bottle shared by Folty at Darkness day, thanks. Strong boozy sweet aroma. Taste follows, a little wood. Missing some carbonation. Still really good stuff.

Bottle @ Athens Craft Beer Expo (Zythognosia) during a tasting workshop. Pours dark amber with big, off-white long lasting head. Medium body, no particles detected. Rich palette, beautiful aromas and notes of caramel, cookies and orange. Definite and distinctive malty character. An excellent barley wine. I consider myself lucky to have tasted it, since finding such kinds of brews is a rare phenomenon where I live. Perfect!
