3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
19/02/2010. 375ml corked bottle from Hashigo Zake. Deep amber, pretty clear with big yeastie floaties... nice caramel and candi sugar aroma with mild notes of dried fruit and a hint of floral hop. Carbonation is low, just how I like it. Unfortunately it falls away in the mouth where a sacchrine-like sweetness dominates and a overly warm alcohol note lingers in behind. Bitterness is a shade (or three) light to balance the sweetness and there is little left in the finish to add any redeeming features. This is "worse"... worse than I had hoped for after a very good experience with the same breweries "Fra Til". Still, in making the amazingly diverse range of experimental beers that these guys make, you’re always going to get a few wrong (and certainly I can’t say I’ve ever had anything technically wrong from Mikkeller).

Bottle. Orange-brown, some colloidal sediment at the end of the pour. aroma and flavour are quite sweet, over-ripe pitted fruits, lighter (but still chewy) candyish malts, mild acidity leading into mild bitterness through the finish. Some perfumey floral notes. A good sipper.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
APPEARANCE: dark brown beer, small stable off white head.
NOSE: caramel, sweet, some liquorice, somewhat hoppy, little coffee even.
TASTE: caramel, alcohol warming, sweet, wood, lots of sugar and alcohol.
Too sweet and too high in alcohol for me to make this a great beer. Though it’s really nice already
