theisti (953), Leawood, Kansas, USA May 8, 2008 375 bottle purchased at Blue Max. Pour is hazy orange bronze with nice settling and a 1 inch off white head. Aroma of citrus, honey, floral, caramel and pine. Nice nose. Taste is fresh tasting, bright and floral citrus and also a nice big malty backbone. Oranges and honey. Very well done Barley Wine, no heat at all. Fresh may have been the way to go with this one.
Mogwai (129), Askeby, Denmark Jul 9, 2008 Bottle 37,5 cl. Pours a dark red/brown colour with a medium off-white head. Aroma is amazing with malt, hops, dark fruit spices and alcohol. Mouthfeel is excellent, very soft and tingling. Flavor is much like the aroma, with the hops and alcohol kicking your head in, without being all too dominant. WIll age well, if only I can manage it. Why I love Barley Wine!! Slayer85 (422), Firenze, Italy Jul 7, 2008 375 ml bottle. A lightly hazy deep red beer with a medium sized and quite persistent beige head. The aroma is quite good and powerful, vinous, both malty and hoppy wityh notes of caramel, plums, other fruits, pine and atouch or maybe more of alcohol. The flavour is very sweet, again fruity, with a good amount of aromatic hops in the finish. Good mouthfeel, but a bit too sticky and syrupy for my likings to give a 5 on palate. Full body, soft carbonation, long finish with medium to high bitterness. The alcohol is felt. A nice barley wine. Hophead22 (51), Redlands, California, USA Jul 6, 2008 Very nice dark red color, big malty aroma. Heavy sweet flavor, like sucking on a piece of hard candy. Very good beer, need to pick up a few bottles for the cellar. Goes good with birthday cake too. SuperDave70 (605), Arizona, USA Jul 5, 2008 Nice reddish-brown pour with a medium foamy head that leaves good lacing. Sweet aroma of fruit and malt. Big sweet fruity caramel flavor. Touch of bitter hops and alcohol on the finish. Pretty tasty. edden (882), cow- lumbus, Ohio, USA Jun 29, 2008 6/29/08: Bottle Brown-red copper body. Nose of rich malt, plums and alcohol.
