3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 apoptosis (1317) - Denver, Colorado, USA - JAN 1, 2008Looks like an off-colored wine, as it is nearly still - no head, no bubbles. Dark coppery colored. Very sweet and raisin-filled aroma. Prunes, plums, dates, figs in the aroma. It is very, very warming. The alcohol is very evident, and its obvious why the beer is so overly sweet. It is too sweet for my pleasure.

3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 superspak (1539) - Michigan, USA - MAY 25, 2013
375 ml bottle into snifter, best before 3/18/2014. Pours very hazy and cloudy dark brown color with no head or carbonation; plastic corks never work. Aromas of big raisin, apple, caramel, molasses, toast, toffee, brown bread, chocolate, roasted malt, floral, and roasted earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of fruity and malty notes; with good strength. Taste of raisin, apple, caramel, molasses, toast, toffee, brown bread, chocolate, light roast, floral, and toasted earthiness; some slight oxidation but barely noticeable. No bitterness; with lingering notes of raisin, caramel, toast, toffee, molasses, brown bread, chocolate, light roast, and toasted earthiness. Nice flavor balance and complexity of malt flavors with moderate fruity notes; with no cloying sweetness present after the finish. Zero carbonation and medium-full bodied; with slick and fairly syrupy mouthfeel that is ok, but very slow to sip on. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a small warming noticed after the finish. Overall this this a solid barleywine. Some nice complexity and balance of malt flavors; probably would have scored quite a bit higher if it actually had carbonation, but thankfully not much oxidation was present. An enjoyable sipper.

Pours dark brown, with little to no carb and dark brown with red hues. Aroma is complex, fruity with raison and tobacco notes. Flavor is carmelly, sweet, with no hop flavor. Palate is thin with no carb and no alcohol burn. Alcohol comes across in flavor but is not prominent. A solid big, bad beer.

On tap at mane liquor. Pours murky brown with small head that doesn't go anywhere. Wow, the smell is intense! Chewy toffee, biscuit, caramel, apricot, peach and other sweet fruits. Taste is full on! Huge creamy mouth feel with flavours of caramel fudge, toffee, apricot and maybe banana. Alcohol is lingering but well hidden. World class stuff!

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 HopRedHead (151) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - APR 6, 2013
Tapped at Mane Liquor. Sweet mother of the English sky - this beer smells good! Pours a thick orange/brown with 2cm of sustained, thick head. Very upfront toffee biscuit malt notes, driven by a thick caramel fudge aroma. Taste is complementary, huge caramel flavours with a mixture of butterscotch from the malt and a faint hint of dried apricot. Body is so chewy and pleasant on the palate. Alcohol is very inconspicuous, only present in the aftertaste via a lingering warm coating of the mouth. Really well crafted beer enhanced by the year of aging in the cool room. Congratulations to Mane and Mikkeller!
