Tap @ Copenhagen 2010. Slight hazy copper color, short head. Firm malty body. Alcoholic raisiny sweetness. Bit over the top. Preferred the cat in the barrel.

Bottle. Toffee colored beer with a cream colored head. Pine and grapefruit aroma with big alcohol notes and sweet caramel. Alcohol flavor with pine, summer fruit, and caramel. Medium-plus bodied. Alcohol and sweet malt linger with summer fruit and pine.

Cloudy tanned-orange, super viscous. Near overpowering pear brandy nose, cleanses the brachioles. Exceptionally fruity, sharp esters and ethyls swirly tightly. Bready and fruity body, again with lots of esters and some alcohol heat. Aside from perhaps being excessively potent for my tastes, I can see this skull-splitter as just the tonic for for a cold, windy night, curled up by the firey hearth. Thanks for sharing, Scrizz!

375ml bottle. Amber with a small white head. Big coriander spice in the aroma with a ton of hot and perfumey alcohol. Very sweet flavor with the same spice and hops struggling to stick out over the thick malt sweetness. Thick fruit and toffee, but mostly sweet and spicy. Big alcohol in the finish. Full and syrupy with low carbonation. Needs a lot of time and I don’t think I’ll bother waiting to find out if I’m right.

For me barley wine, dont seem to get in the category beer, second one I taste, and while the taste is not to bad, the lack of carbonation and foam is a big nono for me as a beer. Dark amber coloured, no head. Lots of sweetness and fruity.

Overpriced 375ml bottle shared by someone at a tasting. Glad I got to tick this beer without shelling out mucho dinero for it. Not worth the price at all. Hazy orangish-amber in color with a well-formed off-white/yellowish head. Leaves some lacing on the glass. Aroma is sweet and boozy. Lots of caramel and some dried fruit notes, along with slightly faded citrusy hops. Sweet caramel malt is the dominant flavor note. There is also some toffee, citrus (orange/grapefruit/pineapple), brown sugar, and earth. A little unbalanced and boozy, but fairly tasty. Fairly full-bodied and syrupy with an appropriate carbonation level. A little boozy, as you’d expect for a beer of this strength. A decent beer, but just not very good for the barleywine style at all. I looked up "hit-or-miss" in the thesaurus yesterday and it said "Mikkeller." These guys can be really great or really average, depending on the beer. This is a prime example of why bigger isn’t always better.

Bottle, thanks to Cole for the share. Pours murky orange, thin off-white head, no head. Nose is citrus hops, orange, booze, marmalade, grapefruit rind, caramel. Flavours are quite straightforward, citrus, booze, caramel. Meh.

My Bottom Line:
Hefty, unrefined caramel builds a portly body for this bold Barley Wine, as minty, green wooden hop flavors attempt to create some complexity.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A sliver of foam floats atop the cloudy pale red.
-Alcohol flavors are overdone considering it’s over 17% abv...
-That being said, I would never have drunk this by myself. Way too powerful and just not pleasant enough.
-Brown sugar flavors are overwhelming, even after a few sips.
-The malts don’t present much more than basic sugar flavors.

Bottle from the first batch (17.6% abv).
