This was better than expected and perhaps the best Barley Wine i’ve tasted. The look is sleightly hazy amber with a medium tan bubbling head. The aroma strikes me hard with extremly powerfull citrus hop notes, blood orange and mandarine. The suprising thin about this beer is how smooth the flavor is, considering the abv. It is extremly sugery sweet bit when paired with the enormous bitterness, its quite allright. Really nice zipper!

Faintly hazed foxy red beer with medium, sligthly yellowish head as whipped eggwhite. Fruity aromas jumping out of the glass, especially passion fruit, also mango, orange, grapefruit, white grapes. And USA hops, getting drier, hopbales like. Very fruity bittersweet flavour; bitter oranges, kumquats, grapefruit, pineapple- and strawberryesters. Caramel, toffee, maple syrup and fusels. Oh, and some hops... Alcoholwarming, very slick-oily. Fiery, yet drinkable. Warming up, benzeneFruitester bomb, superbly hopped, yet adequate malts. Mikkeller seems to get better every month... though this one reminds me of Mikkels’ first homebrew Barley Wine I ever tasted.

Bottle. Pours a hazy orange. smells of sweet citrus, plum and phenols. Tastes of sweet candy, berries, oranges and finishes with loads of phenols. Body is full. Texture is syrupy. Carbonation is soft.

Bottle @ Mads, 10 / 8 2013. Red wax, 18,5% alc. version. Looks like carbonated apple juice (in a good way), amber, small white head that quickly disappear, leaving sugary curtains when swirling. Aroma, sweet malty, honey, wine like, apples, alcohol, . Taste, first i can’t believe how well the alcohol is hidden the taste, it does have a warming alchoholic ending which is great, this is awesome, sweet malty wine like flavors hits first, then some warming apple vanilla notes, then a spicy alcoholic warmth kicks in. Like warm appke pie! . I love this beer and it is quite hard to describe. Leaves a warm malty oily aftertaste. Good mouth feel.

Bottle. Pours a golden, amber, colour with a very short lasting off-white head. Aroma is plenty of hops, caramel, malt. Taste is very good, medium sweetness, full body, thick feel, soft carbonation, long alcoholic finish.

Another fine brew provided by Blazer06, thanks again Zack. Pours clear copper with off white head. The aroma is sweet with apples, plums, figs, a sliver of caramel, sweet malts and some mild heat at the end of the draw. The taste is just as sweet and smooth as the nose suggested with slick caramel moving into rich fruitiness from plums, perfectly ripe red apples, figs, apricots and sugar coated pear wedges. It stays smooth, sweet, fruity and yummy defying the massive ABV. Wow!

Draught at Mikkeller, København, Denmark.
Hazy amber colour with small white head. Strong yeasty fruity and malty aroma. Flavour is sweet fruits, berries, vanilla, only mild alcohol, sweet sugar and mild hops. Quite balanced, complex, warming and intoxicating. Very drinkable and delicious for such a high ABV beer.

This is sooooooooo good, my god how is this not the best thing on the planet!!!! Brew appears dark ruby brown, it somehow almost looks purple complete with a thin skiff floating on top but with 17% alcohol what ells should expect. WOW is this thick so very thick feeling it like the most yummy cough syrup ever. Sweet hops and some astringent are in the nose but not unpleasant. This taste phenomenal the 17% is completely hidden its smooth warm and yummy. Hops seem to go from a peach to grape fruit. Just hit some almond extract. All this seems to be built on this sweet plum/fig combo. Great brew.

UPDATED: FEB 23, 2011 375ml bottle shared with good friends, luckily because this beer is very strong. The alcohol is very well masked though. Almost no head, amber color. Nose: this smells sweet, hints of toffe and alcohol. Taste: toffee, overripe papaya and figs, maple-syrup, acacia-honey, even some touches of licorice at the very end of the aftertaste. Some chest-warming sensations from the alcohol appears after a while. Worked very well with dark lemon-flavored chocolate, both not so well with blue cheese. A great dessert-beer and a great Barley Wine.

Barley wine as an experiment. All colours are involved. A liquid is strange, strong, stinky, alcoholic, earthy with nose of last century old wooden barrell and old aluminium pipes. I think you need to drink more overpriced bottles to recognize what animal you drink. B@H
