nice capped and waxed bottle clear amber, small offwhite head. mild sweet caramelly and malty aroma, caramel, bourbon, alc. flavor is sweet malts, wood, bourbon, warming alc. feeling, bitterness from the wood, sort of flowery or honey like note. Qute a bitter barley wine, alc. works well with the flavor. Impressive they got to 19.2% alc. w/o freezing it. The relatively low rate is because i find the beer a bit rough around the edges and i must admint i’ve tasted loads of other barley wines that tasted better. I love the way the wood, alc and hops create a huge bitterness to balance the sweetness. You shouldn’t miss this one, it’s quite an experience.

UPDATED: JUN 15, 2014 Aroma of caramel malts, wood, ripe fruits and a bit citrus. Taste is the same along with a huge vinous feel. I think the body on this one is better than the original as I remember it. Alcohol is dangerously hidden . Brilliant!

It’s a clear copper-amber beer which raises a finger of short lived off white head. How there can be any head on a beer of this ABV is beyond me. Anyway, the nose is of rich orange malts; there is marmalade, orange peel and even pith. A certain vanilla creaminess can be found but this is all I can pick out of the bourbon aging. I’m very surprised at how fresh this is and amazed at how little booze presence there is. All of the nose is found on the palate; big orange character, big malts and even a little bit of hops. Mouth feel is very thick, syrup like, with a low carbonation. It finishes on the sweet side, adding a cointreau element to the mix. It’s somewhat simple, somewhat sweet, but it does drink like a beer and at 19.2% that’s something.

12.7oz bottle Tampa Weekly Gathering @kiefdogs-thanks to Blazer06–pours a few bubbles for a head and hazy amber color. Aroma is vinuous, alcohol, fruit, medium malt, oak, spice hops. Taste is vinuous, alcohol, fruit, medium malt, oak, spice hops, some honey. Interesting.

Bottle that I purchased from Beer Merchants and consumed 25.12.10 Pours murky amber with off-white head. Huge boozy bourbon nose. Taste is really harsh bourbon overiding what may have been a decent barley wine. Sweetness combined with some woodiness and vanilla try to stamp their mark on this beer but its all a bit too much for me and too messy. A brave attempt but not my thing at all I’m afraid, threw half of the glass away as I just couldn’t finish it. A6 A3 T5 P2 Ov11 2.7

Big thanks to Blazer06 for the big taste. It pours hazy murky copper with white head. The aroma is bold and boozy and harsh with fruits like apricot, apple and sugary peach mixing with some spicy wood notes and a decent amount of heat at the end of the draw. The taste is smooth rich sweet bold goodness with iced cider, concentrated apricot, a mead sense, slick rich malts, molasses, modest bourbon and muted spicy oak notes. Above this array of flavors is resiny pine hop bitterness. The word "yum" comes to mind.

Big thanks to IBrew2or3 for sharing this one. Pours hazy orange with a slight white head. Nose is booze, caramel, honey, citrus hops, and vanilla. Flavor is similar with lingering booze, bourbon, caramel, and goodness. Medium-bodied and a nice sipping barleywine.

On tap at Beer Temple. Dark brown body with tan head. Bourbon nose. Taste is quite sweet but alcohol very strong. Too much for me, to be honest.

Bottle. Medium high fluffy off-white head. Hazy thick looking amber body. Powerful malty aroma. Relatively sweet malty flavor with mild hops and a hint of bourbon. Low carbonation. Long sweet aftertaste.

Bottle pours hazy amber with a white head. Aroma is huge citrus, reinforced with sweet toffee/caramel, bourbon, and oak. Flavor shows the same with some raisin and vanilla. Overall body is full, heavy sweet, with only a trace of bitterness. Good stuff, just a little unbalanced and sweet.
