Agreed, there’s lots of alcohol... But what is so special is that the alcohol only comes after the taste explosion in the mouth: first a nutty hint, then chocolate and finally confited orange peels... The danger is that it srinks so easily...

Sweet, vinous, mostly alcohol. Like a cheap licuor. Does not work as a beer. Brutal. A little malt extract, no bourbon character. Mostly for the Guinness book of records.

375 ml bottle. Cloudy brown colour Small off-white head. Intense vinous aroma with fruity esters and alcohol. Vanilla and oak. Strong sweet flavours. Candy-like. Strong oaky flavours and a very strong hop bitterness. Not even close to achieve balance, but rather intense and rough. Sweet, but also very wooden, hoppy and bitter.

UPDATED: SEP 3, 2012 Bottle at the Cask Pub and Kitchen, thanks to Mes. It pours a cloudy amber colour with a thin lace of head and minimal carbonation. The nose is of dark sticky fruits (prune, raisin and date), honey, brown sugar, bourbon and wood. The taste is prune, date, maple syrup, honey, nut, wood, varnish, orange peel, caramel and molasses. I can’t believe this weighs in at over 19% as the alcohol is pretty well hidden, making this surprisingly easy to drink!

Bottle; 375, 19.1%, Big Worst Barely Wine Bourbon Poured into goblet glass; murky copper-gold appearance which reds out at the edges. Aroma is alcohol, honey, caramel, marzipan, candi-sugar and floral hops, bourbon and oak. Taste is honey, syrup. caramel, marzipan, candi-sugar, loads of alcohol, sweet malts, hey, nectar. some treacle, bourbon and oak.Very complex and big but misses the spot for me. A very aggressive beer!

Im not a huge Bourbon fan but this beer was great! Not harsh to drink and Mikkeller makes great beers. I would recomend this for someone just getting into the bourbon beers. Great Barley Wine. I loved that it was not over hopped like a lot of Barley Wines are now a days.

Pours an average frothy off-white/tan head that disappears fairly quickly, but leaves a fair amount of lacing on the glass. Initial aroma is malty toasted nuts that gives way to a moderate hoppy herby/resiny aroma. The taste follows the same pattern, but now is followed by the oaky bourbony nuances from the casks it’s stored in and done in a pleasant manner that is deviously subtle and a joy to drink!. The alcohol is well hidden-you know your not drinking an ordinary pilsner, but you sure do enjoy the 19.1 % that is in it. In fact it enhances the taste, and makes it something you will remember! Mikkeller isn’t afraid to search for and extend the limits if there are any left in brewing!!! Should be served 10-18 degs. C. Brilliant!

nice capped and waxed bottle clear amber, small offwhite head. mild sweet caramelly and malty aroma, caramel, bourbon, alc. flavor is sweet malts, wood, bourbon, warming alc. feeling, bitterness from the wood, sort of flowery or honey like note. Qute a bitter barley wine, alc. works well with the flavor. Impressive they got to 19.2% alc. w/o freezing it. The relatively low rate is because i find the beer a bit rough around the edges and i must admint i’ve tasted loads of other barley wines that tasted better. I love the way the wood, alc and hops create a huge bitterness to balance the sweetness. You shouldn’t miss this one, it’s quite an experience.
