2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 madvike (2090) - Middleton, Wisconsin, USA - OCT 6, 2012
Bottle shared by Captain_Cab...thanks Mike! - Pours black with a thin bubbly tan head. Nose is roasty with coffee, brown sugar, and a good amount of heat. Taste is huge and sweet, with brown sugar, molasses, chocolate, and a bit of coffee. Thin and a bit slick. Way too sweet and thick for my tastes.
4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 jbardin (161) - New York, USA - OCT 5, 2012
Bottle brought back from Portland, ME and aged for 14 months. Beautiful coffee and bourbon, though a tad sweet for me, probably from the honey.

On tap. Pours black with minimal tan head. Aroma is very rich with coffee, chocolate, vanilla, roasted malt. Don’t pick up a lot of bourbon in it, but maybe it’s a touch more rounded than the normal Black Hole? Hard to tell. Taste is classic imperial stout. Very bold, with a nice balance between sweet and bitter, although leaning slightly towards the bitter side which I don’t mind at all. Body is full, somewhat creamy, somewhat oily. Low carbonation.

UPDATED: DEC 17, 2012 Bottle at Delirium Hoppy Loft. I loved the original Black Hole; one of my favorite imperial stouts (and perhaps all-time beers). My expectations were thus quite high for the Bourbon barrel-aged version, and not just because I happen to like bourbon.
Deep black color, some brown foam, aroma has the sweeter vanilla I nowadays expect from a Bourbon barrel-aged imperial stout. Smooth as butter on the palate with toffee/vanilla standing out, in comparison to the original version. The aftertaste is bittersweet, hoppy, phlegm-inducing. Greatness. Not much else to say, except that I enjoyed this one even more than the original.
If I could have one of these every day of my life, I believe I would be a better person and the world would benefit from it.
Tried again 17.11.12. Perhaps taking the score down a bit, but still very good stuff.

Bottle. Pours a pitch black color with a tan head. Aroma is of bourbon, oak, charred oak, vanilla, lots of coffee, roasted malt, sweeter sugary notes, dark chocolate, a burnt note and liquorice. The flavor follows the nose with lots of bourbon and oak, I get the charred oak notes too, roasted malt, coffee, vanilla, sweet sugary notes, liquorice, burnt notes and dark chocolate. The body is full with an oily mouth feel. Overall a great version of Black Hole.
