(bottle - corked & caged 375 ml - 2010 vintage) Dark black pour with a very thin tan head and very mild carbonation. Huge roasted malt aroma with a dark fruit backbone and a woody twinge to it as well. Flavor is a big mixture of coffee, licorice, vanilla, wood and a big bourbon sweetness. Not as sweet as I thought it would be and the alcohol is well hidden. Delicious and thick.

Bottle. This is a really big beer with lots of wood and alcohol in the mix. I like this a little more than the scotch barrel aged. I think the sweetness of the bourbon helped.

WOW!! This is a BIG BEER!!! Robust, full bodied stout! This is what I expected from Mikeller. Coffee, licorice, beer, and bourbon flavors explode in the mouth... Small, tan head. (Oct 2012)

375ml bottle at BrewDog,Birmingham 18th march, shared with Roberto.Good looking black pour with smallish stable tan head.First aromas of roast malt and bourbon followed by chocolate and caramel, also a little vanilla presenting itself upon warming.Bourbon and roast malt flavour with dark fruit, oak and alcohol making up the mix in this very tasty stout which we both agreed was a cracker.

A - Dark brown-black with a finger of frothy chocolate colored head. Fades at a normal pace. S - Dark chocolate and dark caramel malts, roasted coffee, molasses, black licorice, oak, vanilla, Bourbon, some dark fruit, and some booze. T - Dark chocolate and sweet dark caramel malts, roasted coffee, black licorice, molasses, vanilla, oak, Bourbon, some dark fruit, some citrus and pine hops and a bit of bitterness, and some booze. M - Full bodied with moderate carbonation. Smooth with a warming and sweet finish. D - Nicely balanced big imperial Stout. Nice body and mouthfeel. The Bourbon barrels add some nice depth and complexity.

375ml bottle (CWAF2013, Fri)
Black and glassy. Lovely vanilla-ey bourbon aroma, sugary dark roast too. Slick palate, very full. Shows its strength. Chock-full of bourbon in the taste too. Very sweet burnt roast too, but, hedonistically, the small sample I had pressed my buttons. Don’t know if I could put up with any quantity of it though.

Bottle @ home. Pitch black beer with no head. Smells bourbon, whisky, wood, roasty, dark chocolate, tar. Tastes sweet, bourbon, wood, dark chocolate.. Amazing taste, but it has a little bit too much of the bourbon taste. Feels quite heavy alcoholic, full body, silky, soft carbo.

UPDATED: MAR 24, 2013 Bottle via De Molen Beershop, 2011 vintage. Pours pitch black with a 1 finger creamy, light brown head that does not retain. Aroma hits hard with a lot of bourbon, raisins, chocolate, woody notes, smoke as of wet wood lit on fire and vanilla. There is an unpleasant rubber aroma lingering on top of all this before the beer warms up. Taste has smoke, chocolate, bourbon, raisins, roasted malt, coffee and a to big portion of alcohol. Before the beer warms up, there is some acetone/solvent as well. After taste has warming raisin alcohol and is bitter. At first, I was disappointed due to the rubber in aroma and acetone/solvent taste but as soon as the beer warms up - they’re gone. Not a hit due to these aroma and taste elements and it has too much alcohol for my taste. I prefer the original version in which the alcohol is quite hard to detect.
