3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Hair6a11 (1156) - Illinois, USA - SEP 4, 2011On tap at the map room; pour is murky dark brown with a hint of amber; a khaki head is present in this glass, though there’s not much of it. It eventually layers a haze on this glass, though there is a nice, sticky lacing present. The nose is coffee beans, bourbon, dark fruits, and brown sugars. The flavor profile is more impressive to me; there is a hint of smokiness, roasted coffee beans, caramel and brown sugars, dark fruits, port, and cocoa. This is a nice sipper, but I was surprised to find that the bourbon wasn’t very prevalent, nor even the typical oak notes. resin,

WOW!! This is a BIG BEER!!! Robust, full bodied stout! This is what I expected from Mikeller. Coffee, licorice, beer, and bourbon flavors explode in the mouth... Small, tan head. (Oct 2012)

375ml bottle (CWAF2013, Fri)
Black and glassy. Lovely vanilla-ey bourbon aroma, sugary dark roast too. Slick palate, very full. Shows its strength. Chock-full of bourbon in the taste too. Very sweet burnt roast too, but, hedonistically, the small sample I had pressed my buttons. Don’t know if I could put up with any quantity of it though.

Bottle @ home. Pitch black beer with no head. Smells bourbon, whisky, wood, roasty, dark chocolate, tar. Tastes sweet, bourbon, wood, dark chocolate.. Amazing taste, but it has a little bit too much of the bourbon taste. Feels quite heavy alcoholic, full body, silky, soft carbo.
3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Garlic_of_Doom (193) - Bjärred, SWEDEN - JAN 14, 2013
UPDATED: MAR 24, 2013 Bottle via De Molen Beershop, 2011 vintage.
Pours pitch black with a 1 finger creamy, light brown head that does not retain.
Aroma hits hard with a lot of bourbon, raisins, chocolate, woody notes, smoke as of wet wood lit on fire and vanilla. There is an unpleasant rubber aroma lingering on top of all this before the beer warms up.
Taste has smoke, chocolate, bourbon, raisins, roasted malt, coffee and a to big portion of alcohol. Before the beer warms up, there is some acetone/solvent as well.
After taste has warming raisin alcohol and is bitter.
At first, I was disappointed due to the rubber in aroma and acetone/solvent taste but as soon as the beer warms up - they’re gone. Not a hit due to these aroma and taste elements and it has too much alcohol for my taste. I prefer the original version in which the alcohol is quite hard to detect.
