Huge imperial stout, major coffee and dark chocolate notes with peaty whisky on the finish.. Smells of Laphroig and dark chocolate. 2 thumbs up!

UPDATED: OCT 29, 2013 Bottle, 2011 vintage. Pours black with a small brown head. Aroma is dominated by peat whiskey, tar, smoke, hemp rope but some sweet notes, liquorice and some alcohol shines through at the end. Taste has sweetness at first followed by peat, liquorice, dry chocolate/cocoa, booze drenched dark fruit/cherries and vinous notes. After taste is long, peaty/tarry and dry. Low carbonation, thick mouth feel. Really great stuff!

I’ve read some bad stuff about this Black Hole variation and I can see why - If you’re expecting Black Hole with a little twist that is. This is pretty much a whole different beer.

Bottled 18/05/11. Black with quite a large brown head. Aroma: peaty, chocolate, licorice, creamy. Taste: peaty, roasted, cigar ashes and tobacco, cream, cocoa, coffee, some grounds, honey, dark fruit, brown sugar. Full-bodied. Yeah, I like this.

Very earthy and smokey and peaty. Medium bodied for a stout. Not a fan of smokey stuff so take my rating for what it’s worth.

Bottle. This is a thick and oily impy with a whole lot of whiskey flavor. Almost too much.

A - Dark brown-black with a finger of frothy chocolate colored head. Fades at a normal pace. S - Dark chocolate and dark caramel malts, oak, whiskey, peat, smoke, roasted coffee, molasses, black licorice, vanilla, some dark fruit, and some booze. T - Dark chocolate and sweet dark caramel malts, peat, smoke, oak, whiskey, roasted coffee, black licorice, molasses, some vanilla and dark fruit, some citrus and pine hops and a bit of bitterness, and some booze. M - Full bodied with moderate carbonation. Smooth with a warming, smokey, and sweet finish. D - Nicely balanced big imperial Stout. Nice body and mouthfeel. The whiskey barrel adds some nice complexity and smokiness to the beer.

Embrouille (2835) - SWITZERLAND - FEB 6, 2013
Bottled 375ml. Pitch black with no head at all. Leather, vanilla, peat and smoke are most present in the nose. Full bodied. No carbonation. Extremely smooth. Incredibly delicious- this is a great version of the Black Hole. Underrated in my opinion.

Pours black with creamy and frothy brown head. Initial aromas are vanilla, wet wood, seawater, sweetness. Flavours are wet wood, peat, chocolate, vanilla, sweetness from honey, some coffee, some booze. There is a lot of different thing happening In this one...tough to pinpoint all of the beers characterisitics, but I did enjoy every sip.

Bottle at ChrisO tasting, thanks to Toby, 30/12/12. Mid black with a thin tan head that clears to the edge. Nose is peaty booze, wood, dark malts, waft of smoke. Taste comprises full on dark roast malt, sugars, booze, peated whisky, bitter cocoa. Full bodied with an oily texture and little in the way of carbonation which then leads to a boozey warming finish. Good stuff !

Boutip (5863) - Gatineau, Quebec, CANADA - DEC 23, 2012
Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color stout with a large dirty brown foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of peat scotch is easily discernable with good amount of residual sugar and light dry roasted malt notes. Taste is a pretty intense mix between some peat scotch malt with dry roasted malt and quite an amount of residual sugar. Body is full with oily like texture and good carbonation for style with surprisingly no apparent alcohol. Not something for everyday drinking but still quite an enjoyable experience.
