2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Black with no head. Strange herbaceous and vegetables aroma, not very inspiring. Medium body for such a strong beer, the black malt characters totally outshines the barrel qualities. finishes on a greenish note. Quite unpleasant beer, the worst of this Black Hole BA series.

Thanks Chuck! The beer pours to a black body with a red wine tinge. Red tinged tan head. Aroma of black patent malt and wine. Flavor is black patent with a red wine and chocolate. Tangy. Palate is medium bodied. Not bad, just not exceptional.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Black pour, inconsistent large bubbled light brown head soapy and whispy not much lacing. The red wine notes in the aroma are just odd for a big IS, big roast malts, alcohol, light chocolate and coffee notes a lot of wine in the aroma. Rich well coated lightly creamy palate. A little buttery some light chocolate a lot of wine notes and some oak, a hot alcohol in the finish. The wine barrels didn’t help this beer at all. OK drink, but certainly not worth the price tag go for the bourbon barrel or port or something in that line.

my notes are pretty unreadable save for the number scores. burnt finish too much wine character makes this imbalanced, alcohol heat

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Slight bit of coffee, and a good dose of vanilla and honey. The red wine brings all kinds of fruit and acidity to it, almost a sangria like taste on top of imperial stout.

August 30, 2012 bottle at BVery’s tasting. Add another Black Hole variant to the list. The usual black pour with a nice tan head and lacing. Aroma and taste like the regular, but had the red wine and slight sourness to it. A great way to end the tasting. Thanks Brian!

Bottle from beerplanet.eu. Almost dark color with no head. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee, chocolate, barnyard, wood, ashy notes. Taste, roasted malt, coffee, dark chocolate, vanilla, ash, vinous hints, wood. Coffee bitterness in strong alcoholic finish. Nice imperial stout, although not best from Black Hole beers.
