3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours black in color with almost no carbonation. The red wine really comes through on the nose giving a nice fruitiness, mild butterscotch, and oak. Plenty of wine and grape aroma with sweet chocolate and molasses. The beer is a bit on the sweet side with molasses, chocolate, berries, and grapes all being major contributors to the flavor. A decent oakiness along with some roasted malt and cocoa powder. Quite full in body, though some carbonation could be helpful.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle at home. Has a black colour with a small beige head. Sweet aromas of leather, wood, lots of oak, juniper, earth and hint of vanilla. Oak also present in the flavour with a fantastic ending with coffee, dark chocolate and chocolate truffles. Slick and smooth mouthfeel. Bitterness = light+. A real powerful package in a glass and a terrific beer.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle (consumed with all of the other barrel versions). Pours very dark brown to black with a small beige film. The aroma has roasted malt, dark chocolate, vinous, tannins, the sweet notes from the honey are less pronounced, wood and alcohol. The flavor, although more smooth than the original, contains some harsh maltiness, wood, vinous notes, tannins, dark chocolate, lighter boozy alcohol than some treatments, and mild honey. The base is not my favorite and the variations make varying degrees of improvements to the beer.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
#1000. Bottle, thanks Trevor! Slight vinous, red cherry, subtle. Gorgeous clean black body. Red fruit, juicy body but nicely bitter with heavy malt. Gorgeous subtle flavors, aging is very smart on this. sumptuous. Full cabernet. Sweet balance, fantastic.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours glossy black with a dark tan head. Red wine is really prominent, and plays beautifully off the molasses, coffee, and dark fruits. Something like a barrel-aged world wide stout would taste, I imagine -- some port wine in here, too. Really wonderfully balanced -- definitely covers the 13%. Lovely.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Draft. Had during the summer of 2011, then late sping 2012. Quite surprisingly, for me anyway, one of the best of the barrel aged Black Hole series. Unlike other versions the red wine here seems to "envelop" the stout rather than blend. Though by 2012 it had blended more and was less interesting.

Bottled 375ml (Beer Hunters, vintage 2010, BB 180314)
Pitch black color, small beige head. Toasted malty, rye bready and slightly raisiny aroma, a bit sherry-like. Medium to full-bodied. Chocolaty, vanilla, raisins, sweet dark bread flavor. Not much actual red wine tartness here found. Lovely aged Black Hole.
