Corked bottle. Pours a pitch black color with a thin tan head. Aroma is of rum, molasses, lots of dark fruits, some booze, vanilla, dark sugary notes, coffee, roasted malt and oak. The flavor follows the nose but is rather thin due to the lack of carbonation, I get some rum, lots of molasses and dark fruits, booze, vanilla, dark sugary, oak, roasted malt and coffee. The body is on the lighter side of medium, with a silky, yet almost watery mouth feel because of the lack of carbonation. Overall a pretty good Imperial Stout, but would have been better with a little carbonation.

Thanks to my brother for sending me this bottle. This is the final beer in the Black Hole series that I needed to try. The beer pours a dark brown color with a tan head. The aroma is full of chocolate and roasted malt, with hints of rum and oak mixed in. The flavor is heavier on the rum, with the barrel aged notes of oak and maple thrown in. I also get a nice amount of roasted malt and molasses. The beer is fairly sweet overall and the alcohol is nicely hidden. Thick mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

I am so glad that this was not a full bottle or there is no way I would have been able to finish it. So thick and rich that even half is as filling as several slices of cheesecake it is a better barrel treatment than the white wine.

Aroma / Appearance - Deep oily black fluid seeps down the glass. It almost oozes rather than pouring. Flat with almost no head (no surprise there) it traps the chocolate, plum, anise, and vanilla effectively. The rum lingers in the background with more modesty than some other barrel aged imperial stouts.

Flavor / Palate - The oily texture coats the tongue and begins to dull the senses immediately. Before they wear out completely a complex line of chocolate, plums, rum cake, and vanilla build layers of flavor. The warmth actually restrains itself for a while; even so I would not want to follow it up with another big bold imperial stout.

Bottle. What a freaking mess this was. Black pour with soapy bubbles and not a lick of head. Flat as shit. Nose of coffee, soy sauce, vanilla, and more coffee. Taste follows the nose. I mixed a little with a BB winter warmer I was drinking at the time as well. Just to add some carbonation. It made it a little better.

Bottle. Oily black pour with a few soapy bubbles hanging around. The aroma had big roasted notes to the point where it is almost ashy, rum barrel, vanilla, honey and coffee. The flavor has a sweetness early from the honey and vanilla, molasses and rum barrel hit next followed by the coffee and a strong ash component. Although I know this is big, I’m a bit surprised that there is not more alcohol burn.

Chocolate aroma with light rum notes. Black in color with tan head. Moderate chocolate; the rum is noticable but nice. Notes: Borefts fest
