3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Appearance: Black body, thin, beige head. You’ve seen one of these Black Hole beers, you’ve seen’m all.
Smell: Modestly aromatic notes of heavily roasted barley, low-grade dark chocolate, charred fruit, and liquor fumes. Small hints of agave here and there.
Taste: Fairly sweetness over the well-roasted malts, still ostensibly harsh, and the bittersweet chocolate taste, still a bit crude. Small hints of vanilla, caramel, but more honey flavor showing than any of these beers. Dash of Lo Siento-brand tequila. Those malts just remain harsh, chalky, and acrid throughout. Boozy, harsh, sugary finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-plus body. Medium-low carbonation.
Overall: Sure, I’m in a black hole now, but there’s light at the end of the tunnel as, after this brew, there’s only one remaining Black Hole barrel treatment. At times, it felt like a bout of kidney stones - brutal, harrowing, and painful, but at least I can laugh about it now.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Black pour, black as night. Big tan head that fades slowly and leaves a bevy of lacing. A slight tequila aroma with big chocolatey malt and coffee. Some vanilla backing it all up nicely. Creamy chocolate flavor up front. Velvety. Some coffee and vanilla. Not much tequila character in the mouth. But there is a nice charred type of flavor. Very good.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours black with a small beige head and hints of lacings. Quite sweet with a light bitterness. Aromas of caramel and hoppy hints of spruce. Quite a bit of alcohol. Also aromas of wine, green peppers and tequila. Full bodied. Soft carbonation. Long bitter finish.

Pours pitch black with a huge tan head. Aroma has notes of roasted malt, chocolate, caramel, coffee, alcohol, tequila, pepper, oak and fruity. Taste is medium to heavy sweet and medium bitter with a long roasty, chocolate, bitter and spicy finish. Body is full, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Shared bottle with Timfoolery. I was quite impressed with it. Tequlia and beer sounds like a huge mess, but it worked well. Had the malty sweetness of a stout with just a hint of tequila taste. Winner, winner chicken dinner.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle from a Bay Area store. Aromas are straight up tequila and chocolate/coffee. The mixture of the two types of flavors mingle very well, as the bright tequila burn pairs with bitter chocolate. Palate and appearance were both solid. Great beer.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
375 ml bottle poured a translucent dark reddish brown nearly black with a small lasting brown head. Aromas oif coffee, dark chocolate, tequila, roastiness, oak, alcohol, light pepper and light fruittiness. Palate was mediumto full bodied and smooth with a warming finish. Flavors of cofee, cocoa, tequila, roastines, oak, light peper and a hint of fruittiness with a smooth warming lingering tequila finish. Easily my favorite of the Black Hole Barrel Aged beers!

UPDATED: JUN 23, 2012 (Draft) I love to sip on a glass of Tequila Reposado (or Añejo when I can afford it) but from the first sniff you could tell that the tequila would overpower any other flavours in this beer. Don’t get me wrong, I definitely liked it and it looks absolutely gorgeous, pitch black with a creamy dark head, but I think a little too much of the original beer was lost in the tequila barrels.
