UPDATED: AUG 24, 2006 Bottle #39. Overwhelming aroma of dark roasted malts, liqour soaked fruits and lots of vanilla. Pours pitch black with very little carbonation, a tiny tan ring is barely spotted. Lots of coffee in the flavor, notes of chocolate, vanilla and brandy, reminds me a bit of some sort of vanilla/chocolate ice cream. Very intense, deliveres a small and pleasant alcohol burn to the throat. The vanilla becomes a bit cloying i think.

perfect black, medium brownish foam; coffee, chocolate, some fruits, maybe pine, little bit of alcohol; medium(+) sweetness, medium(-) bitterness, slightly sour; full body, oily feel, little bit alcoholic but smooth, average carbonation, long coffeeish dry finish;
Overall: very complex and balanced, great beer

375 ml bottle shared. Color is black as night, no actual foam forming, only some soap bubbles. Aromas of red wine, oak, bitter chocolate, alcohol. Taste is pretty sweet at first, with vanilla, liquorice, alcohol, some dark fruits, and some coffee and bitter chocolate. Aftertaste is pretty long, and the alcohol kind of burns your eyes and your nose buds. Medium body with no actual carbonation make this one definitely a sipper, and a very slow one!

Bottle, 375ml. Opaque black with a creamy, lacey brown head. Heavy, even abrasive aroma with strong hints of dried fruits, molasses, vanilla, coffee, roasted malt and alcohol. Robust, but not as much as I expected, with flat carbonation. Inmensely complex, with a huge sweet malt character and lingering bitterness. Perfectly balanced, with nothing being overwhelming. Even the heavy alcohol finish is perfectly controlled. Incredibly rich and strong, yet strangely drinkable. Magnificent.

Bottle. Pours black with a small foamy head that fades to a ring and leaves great lacing. Aromas are chocolate liqueur, pine, roasted coffee, tobacco, brown sugar and dried dark fruit. Taste starts with a brown sugar and molasses sweetness but quickly turns to a moderate bitterness. Baker’s chocolate, coffee grounds, earth, dates, and light smoke. Mouthfeel could be better. Pretty chalky but a good full body. Good stout but I expected a little better. Especially for the price.

It’s literarly a Black Hole! It gives you a taste you’ll never forget - from sweet coffee to dark and bitter leafes of tobacco.
It’s a nectar for beerlovers, highly recommended!

Bottle, 2010 vintage. Black with a small tan head, which doesn’t endure long. Aroma is lime, pine, fruit salad and blackjack sweets…clearly hopped to hell. Body is medium to big, smooth, no real carbonation. Taste has smooth malt, light aniseed, lime, twig and soft ash in the finish. None of the alcohol coming through. It’s semisweet and understated. This one didn’t smash me with flavour like some big impys I’ve had, but I really liked the smoothness and softness of the flavours. Excellent.

No disrespect, but I've never liked hoppy beer. This is a hoppy Imperial Stout, (wierd). Drinkable. I like it better than burnt coffee.

On tap at three floyds. Pour is deep black with a small tan head. Aroma and flavor of cocoa powder, coffee, sherry, tobacco, roasted malt, and faint dark fruits. Finish is dry with booze and coffee coming through the most.

Very heavy stout with oat flakes and an anarchistic label representing not much more than... well, a black hole. Thin, milky, dark beige foam, unstable due to the alcohol. Black colour with only a presumption of a wine-red glow under very bright light. Extremely intense aroma of black coffee, bitter chocolate, kahlua, sweet tobacco, Worcestershire sauce, old madera, candied dates, white pepper, raisins, soy sauce. Sharp and demanding, powerful taste of an infinitely profound chocolatey and roasted malt bitterness, soft on the edges though, even a bit sweetish, dark fruits, smoky touch, very thick and viscous mouthfeel, warm alcoholic finish, not astringent, very long and complex and totally satisfying in every sense of the word. Man, what a stout.

On tap @Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Pours a dark brown, almost black with a tan head. Aroma of molasses, espresso, pine, roasted malts, burnt sugar, alcohol, sweet, burnt toffee, burnt rubber. Taste is licorice, espresso, roasted malts, pine, hops, burnt sugar, honey, cacao, sweet, toasted notes with a boozy, lingering espresso finish. Oily, creamy body with medium carbonation.
