Finally……! Black Hole is what Mikkeller is all about. Daring, vulgar and extreme. From the very beginning Mikkellers goal has been to push the limit and with this warming, intense imperial stout, a new chapter in the Danish beer history has been written. The high bitterness from the hops and the sweetness from the malt and alcohol, creates a good balance which makes Black Hole an explosion of nuances, but also leaves a feeling of a perfect and complex beer – in the heavyweight category.

UPDATED: AUG 24, 2006 Bottle #39. Overwhelming aroma of dark roasted malts, liqour soaked fruits and lots of vanilla. Pours pitch black with very little carbonation, a tiny tan ring is barely spotted. Lots of coffee in the flavor, notes of chocolate, vanilla and brandy, reminds me a bit of some sort of vanilla/chocolate ice cream. Very intense, deliveres a small and pleasant alcohol burn to the throat. The vanilla becomes a bit cloying i think.

37.5cl bottle Black, brown foam. Semi sweet aroma with caramel, chocolate, espresso, dark fruits. Big body with a nice sweetness balanced by the dark malts. Very nice!

Chocolate and hints of tropical fruit on the nose. A rich enveloping dark brownish black pour with a espresso hued head and minor lacing. The palate is greeted by roasted malts, sugared candy, coffee bitterness, and raisins. The alcohol is well hidden. Full body and moderate carbonation. Thick mouthfeel. Overall, this is a heavy hitter. Very robust and complex - a nice expression of the ying and yang between sweetness and bitterness.

Thick black beer, oily and slightly dringt mouthfeel. Rich taste of roasted coffee and cacao. Some bitter hops in the background and a surprisingly fruity aftertaste. Alcohol is warming, but not dominant. Very good.

Tap at tap house Munich. Licorice, salmiac and dark choc nose. Spicy, herbal entry. Licorice and extreme flowery hop aromatics. Full dry sticky body. Flowery licorice finish. Very unbalanced really. Licorice aftertaste.

April 4, 2014. 330mL bottle at barvolo. Lovely smooth mouthfeel. Roasted coffee and chocolate nose and flavours. No head to speak of. Oily consistency. Dark chocolate and berries in flavours. Awesome beer. My kind of imperial stout!

Bottle from Tipples. Pours pitch black with a massive dark brown head that goes up 3/4 of the glass. The head turns more creamy and khaki colored as it dissipates. Big sweet and roasty aroma, definite bitter roast on the smell, some brown sugar and chocolate and a bit of dark fruit. Big sweet malts up front that fades into a super smokey roasty flavor that envelopes the palate. Lots of dark sugars and a hint of chocolate, but mainly roasty malts all over. Thinner than expected, a medium mouthfeel with low carbonation. This came off on the cloying side somehow behind the roast, and a bit alcoholic. Meh.

On tap poured a black hue w/ thick tan head. Bold boozy aroma. Initial flavor is moderate sweet and moderate bitter. Tastes are molasses, brown sugar, and fig. Full bodied, soft carbonation and boozy finish. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

375 ml bottle, no date code, ahhhh and yes after sampling it is old. Aroma is deep chocolate malts, burnt coffee and sugar.

The flavor of the coffee bean has turned for the worse. Bitter and astringent. It’s not a total bum out but close. Why can’t breweries put more bottle dates on theses bottles??? Old dark chocolate hurt by the bitter coffee. Cocoa nib and molasses.

Overall, I’m sure this was really nice about 8 months ago. Who else gets angry after paying a premium for a stout and it’s old coffee bitterness? Well I do...

Chalky brown. Oily dark tan head. Dirty lacing. Aroma is funky old earth, spoiling dirt, alcohol. You can tell the flavor is sharp and its like a liquor but the malt flattens this and it goes down smooth with notes of dark fruit pulp and chocolate. Smooth texture that finishes with a bite. Pretty badass for an imperial stout which usually suck. This one is drinkable, even enjoyable.
