Finally……! Black Hole is what Mikkeller is all about. Daring, vulgar and extreme. From the very beginning Mikkellers goal has been to push the limit and with this warming, intense imperial stout, a new chapter in the Danish beer history has been written. The high bitterness from the hops and the sweetness from the malt and alcohol, creates a good balance which makes Black Hole an explosion of nuances, but also leaves a feeling of a perfect and complex beer – in the heavyweight category.

375 ml bottle, corked and caged. Cork date is 14/08/11. Purchased at Bottleworks in Seattle, WA. Opens with a pop. Pour is black, with a nice 1/2 inch deep tan head. Nice lacing on the glass. Head appears very oily. Aroma of bright pine hops, coffee, black licorice and alcohol. Taste is initially quite bitter and acidic. The coffee is present immediately, as is the pine. The coffee, mellows really quickly. Alcohol is present in the taste, but it was much stronger in the nose. The finish has sort of a sour sweet taste to it, somewhere in the middle of the triangle of citrus, soy and licorice. Palate is oily, with a very long, lingering hot finish. This was a well made beer, but was a little to sharp (bitterness, alcohol, etc) for me.

Bottle. Pours cloudy very dark brown with airy but stable tan head. Clear aroma of rast, mcoffee, fruit and malt. Booze in the long nose. Sweetish flavour of malt and fruit, mwith roasty and coffeelike notes and touches of yeast. Warming alcohol presence. Boozy and roasty afteraste with malty hints. Good. Dangerous, though. My rating #5000. Thanks everyone for taking me this far :-) Ooooooh, I’m halfway there!

Poured from the bottle (.375l). Beautiful black beer with creamcoloured head. Aromas of roasted malts, coffee and vanilla. This comes back in the taste, together with some honey and dried fruit. The beer is sweet-bitter, while the aftertaste is more or less sweet. Because of the addition of honey the taste is a bit strange in a very good way. Wonderful and complex!

Big creamy beige head with medium retention. Dark brown colour (mahogany). Aroma is complex and rich: roasted prune, liquor, alcohol, espresso, vanilla. Taste is liquor, dry coffee, roasted dried dark fruits. Some fruity acidity finish. As complex and rich as the aroma. Perhaps too much alcohol dominance. Medium-full bodied.

Bottle from Hop Hideout, and my 1000th rate! Deep Dark brown with a foamy mocha head. Aroma is black forest gateau, liquorice, cherries, and blackcurrants, a bit of coffee too. Taste is tartly boozy and sweet and bitter. Surprisingly drinkable due to its lightness and light carbonation. Excellent and a good choice for a 1000th rate! cheers!

Deep brown to black, opaque. Moderate tan to brown head. The aroma is surprisingly floral. Blossom, Melissa. Later coffee beans, lemon come. Earthy. Pepper. Vanilla. Nice. Medium to full body. Oily to thick palate. Complex taste. Coffee, vanilla, port wine, dark fruit. Earth. Light to medium citric bitterness. Oh my goodness. Perfect.

Sysimusta olut kohtalaisella ruskealla vaahdolla. Laadukas olut, jossa maussa alkoholi puskee hieman turhan paljon läpi.

Couleur noire, bonne mousse brune.

ASPETTO: nero impenetrabile, schiuma marrone, abbondante, fine e persistente. AROMA: incredibile! Corpo decisamente strutturato, carbonizzazione giusta. Veramente un capolavoro di perfezione!

Alkoholi puskee tuoksussa läpi. Maussa on humalien antamaa kitkeryyttä enemmän kuin stouteissa normaalisti. Alkoholi puskee myös maussa kovasti läpi. Omalla tavallaan ihan oiva.

Bottle from 2012. Pours opaque black, no head, no lacing. Aroma is pretty heavy on molasses, cocoa, tobacco. Flavor is medium sweet, fully bitter, molasses and cocoa. Medium body, truly flat, uninspiring mouthfeel. Pretty boozy.
