Finally……! Black Hole is what Mikkeller is all about. Daring, vulgar and extreme. From the very beginning Mikkellers goal has been to push the limit and with this warming, intense imperial stout, a new chapter in the Danish beer history has been written. The high bitterness from the hops and the sweetness from the malt and alcohol, creates a good balance which makes Black Hole an explosion of nuances, but also leaves a feeling of a perfect and complex beer – in the heavyweight category.

Pours opaque black, thick tan head that dissipates slowly. Smells super hoppy, almost like ammonia. Taste is shocking! Chocolate, agave, molasses, grains, cream, bit of honey, some hops toward the finish, with a subtle bitterness that compliments the sweetness perfectly. Slightly sticky, bubbly finish.

Pours as black as night, with a brown head. Chocolate and dark roasted malt dominate the aroma. Tastes just as it smells with dark chocolate and malts with a hint of coffee. There seems to be some dark fruit here too like a touch of port wine. Its well balanced. You can feel the alcohol. Still a very delicious, full-bodied imperial stout. Recommended.

Black with thick and creamy light tan head. Aroma has strong coffee and hops, hints of licorice and black currant. Flavour has more coffee and berries, piercing bitterness just barely controlled by a syrupy sweetness. Big, sticky mouthfeel, lingering bitterness and light alcohol burn. Very good.

Süßer Malzantrunk mit geringer Röstigkeit. Etwas zu zuckrig, frisch rund malzig. Wenig alkoholisch, daher recht süffig. Gut! 8/10/10/10/12/10

Pours dark brown woth average brown head. Alcohol on the nose. Aroma is malty, alcoholic, a bit of coffee and chocolate. Very strong beer, but alcohol is well balanced with sugar so it’s very drinkable. Good one, but nothing to amaze you.

2012 Bottle. Pours pitch black with a tiny, brown head. Aroma has lots of coffee, licorice and burned sugar. Taste is quite sweet, but greatly balanced compared to younger editions of this. Sugary sweetness. A bit of oatmeal, licorice, coffee, bitter roast and a little molasses. The aging has provided some good port wine notes and a nice balance to this beer. Medium-low carbonation and a nice, full body.

Keg at Munich Tap House, 16th September 14. This is heavy on the nose, booze soaked fruit, a little liquorice, tar, coffee. Taste is interesting and complex, there’s a lot going on. The palate is surprisingly light, and it works. Loved it

Tsekouratos (217) - Nea Filadelfeia, Athens, GREECE - SEP 15, 2014
375 ml bottle shared. Color is black as night, no actual foam forming, only some soap bubbles. Aromas of red wine, oak, bitter chocolate, alcohol. Taste is pretty sweet at first, with vanilla, liquorice, alcohol, some dark fruits, and some coffee and bitter chocolate. Aftertaste is pretty long, and the alcohol kind of burns your eyes and your nose buds. Medium body with no actual carbonation make this one definitely a sipper, and a very slow one!

Bottle, 375ml. Opaque black with a creamy, lacey brown head. Heavy, even abrasive aroma with strong hints of dried fruits, molasses, vanilla, coffee, roasted malt and alcohol. Robust, but not as much as I expected, with flat carbonation. Inmensely complex, with a huge sweet malt character and lingering bitterness. Perfectly balanced, with nothing being overwhelming. Even the heavy alcohol finish is perfectly controlled. Incredibly rich and strong, yet strangely drinkable. Magnificent.
