Finally……! Black Hole is what Mikkeller is all about. Daring, vulgar and extreme. From the very beginning Mikkellers goal has been to push the limit and with this warming, intense imperial stout, a new chapter in the Danish beer history has been written. The high bitterness from the hops and the sweetness from the malt and alcohol, creates a good balance which makes Black Hole an explosion of nuances, but also leaves a feeling of a perfect and complex beer – in the heavyweight category.

Nearing black with a medium brown head. Aroma is sweet with burnt malt, licorice and alcohol. Flavor is quite vinous and sweet with burni malt, chocolate, vanilla and anise. Finishes bitter and dry. Good stuff.

Sysimusta olut kohtalaisella ruskealla vaahdolla. Laadukas olut, jossa maussa alkoholi puskee hieman turhan paljon läpi.

Couleur noire, bonne mousse brune.

ASPETTO: nero impenetrabile, schiuma marrone, abbondante, fine e persistente. AROMA: incredibile! Corpo decisamente strutturato, carbonizzazione giusta. Veramente un capolavoro di perfezione!

Alkoholi puskee tuoksussa läpi. Maussa on humalien antamaa kitkeryyttä enemmän kuin stouteissa normaalisti. Alkoholi puskee myös maussa kovasti läpi. Omalla tavallaan ihan oiva.

Bottle from 2012. Pours opaque black, no head, no lacing. Aroma is pretty heavy on molasses, cocoa, tobacco. Flavor is medium sweet, fully bitter, molasses and cocoa. Medium body, truly flat, uninspiring mouthfeel. Pretty boozy.

Picth black. Sweet aromas, chocolate, dextrose and alcohol. Taste reminds me a lot of Mikkeller Black, very heavy sweet, syrup and molasses. Better balance though, so it gain a few points there. Still not my cup of tea.

0,375L bottle bought at the Bottle Shop Hong Kong. Appearance: Pours black colour with thin tan head that leaves fair bits of lacing on the glass. Aroma: Very rich and complex aroma with heavy cocoa , roasted malt, sweet vanilla, caramel, coffee and toasted bread with a touch of honey and liquorice note. Taste: Medium to heavy hop bitterness and chocolate, caramel malt sweetness. Some berry, spice and liquorice taste are added on to the taste later. Palate: Extremely creamy and smooth texture, with long and bitter hop finish. The body is very full and alcoholic. Overall: A very aggressive and heavy imperial stout, but at the same time enjoying it very much. It has combined the sweet, heavy roasted malt and the bitter hops beautifully. A superb stout brewed by Mikkeller .

Bottle. Sherry-like mead notes, lots of body, creamy mouthfeel, not too sweet actually, notes of coffee, roasted finish. Alas, the beer is pierced through and through by notes of acetaldehyde, midway between green apples and solvent. On top of that, the alcohol is shamelessly exposed. What a letdown.

Kolor: ciemnobrunatny, lekko zamglony.
Piana: średnio obfita, drobnopęcherzykowa, dość trwała.
Zapach: sporo wanilii, gorzkiej czekolady, kakao, pralin czekoladowych, kawy, trochę ciemnych owoców, wiśni, alkohol delikatnie wyczuwalny, ale nawet ładnie się komponuje.
Smak: spora pełnia słodowa, dużo kawy, sporo gorzkiej czekolady, kakao, wyraźna wanilia, goryczka średnia, kawowa, dość wyraźny alkohol, który szybko odparowuje.
Wysycenie: średnie, w kierunku niskiego.

Bottle from Alko Sello, Espoo. Pours black with a little brownish head that leaves some lacing. The aroma displays various attributes: heavily roasty maltiness is the backbone that supports elements like strong coffee, salted licorice and a touch of vanilla - very rich. Taste offers initially fairly dry and very roasty maltiness that starts quickly to bend towards hoppier regions. The finish is heavily bitter; in fact, nearly everything in this beer is heavy. Flavours include rye bread, espresso and licorice initially, later also some pine and perhaps a faint touch of plum. Alcohol hides behind everything that the malts and hops are able to come up with. The palate is full-bodied and smooth, low in carbonation. Intense, even a bit aggressive - but also very good.
