29/IV/14 - 37.5cl bottle @ De Hopduvel - BB: n/a (2014-445) Thanks to Bobochamp for sharing the bottle!
Clear dark brown beer, no head. Aroma: sweet, lots of caramel, vanilla notes, bit peppery, mocha, alcohol, soft vanilla notes, milk chocolate, more alcohol, roasted stuff. MF: soft to no carbon, medium to full body. Taste: sweet and sugary start, lots of caramel, some mocha, dark chocolate, alcohol is very noticeable, raisins. Aftertaste: bitter notes, dark chocolate, quite a bit of vanilla, caramel, soft alcohol burn but not too much, I you consider the ABV. Pretty bitter ending with roasted flavours, sugary and more alcohol.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Sample from a bottle (375 ml) shared by BoboChamp while I was visiting Hopduvel. Thanks Ignace! Black with notes head, but some legs from the alcohol. Aroma is boozy, but it’s manageable and there’s definitely some complexity here with dark fruits, dark chocolate, spicy notes, roasted malt, vanilla and light caramel. Taste is boozier than aroma (warming/burning) with dark chocolate, alcohol, dark fruits, coffee, caramel and wood. Full bodied. Low carbonation. Liquorous mouthfeel. Warming/burning finish. It’s not a bad sipper at all in very small quantity. Unlike Struise Double Black (26 % abv) - which is one of the most amazing beer ever made -, this one doesn’t hide the alcohol at all.

38cl, as Mikkeller Black Black, new exclusive Danish brew Anno 2012, thx to thewolf!, very complex sweet Stout, roasted/alcoholic and slightly fruity/woody, yet not too heavy, balanced, hazy, good head, very good brew, yet very expensive!, WOW!

Bottle, 03/22/2014. Pours black, thin light tan head fades to a fine wisp on the surface, medium ring of lacing, soapy legs cling to the glass. Aroma is honeyed dark chocolate brownie, licorice, surrounded by rich caramel, vanilla, barrel notes, dried dark fruit, touch of alcohol in the finish. Taste is bitter dark chocolate, heavy roast and char, dark cherries, rich caramel, earthy bitter barrel with alcohol. Liqueur-like body. Delicious.

Bottled. Pours pitch black with a small, lacing tan fead. Aroma of roasted malts, vanilla, chocolate and coffee notes. Sweet flavor that ends up more dry and with alcohol. Full bodied, oily texture and soft carb. An excellent impy.

Fare thee well Josh tasting at Bruce’s. Thanks to Josh for this Mikkeller rarity. Opaque dark brown - black beer, small pale tan head. Palate is smooth and dry. Smooth malt, rich and tangy. Bitter dark toffee and tangy dark fruits. Little.spirity fruit, touch of paint. Mild dark chocolate and coffee. Mellow Port wine. Finishes dry and warm. A complex and warming beer but it never quite realises it’s own potential.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle shared in London for my farewell drinks. Picked up at Mikkeller & Friends bottle shop. Pours black as black with a creamy khaki head. Nose is big and ashy just like previous Black’s but with some peppery spice, dirty earth, prune like sweetness and vanilla oaky notes. A fair bit of heat there. Taste is big dark chocolate, honey treacle, vanilla, big bourbon-like spice and an oaky feel. Slight hints of brandy in there. There is a balanced smokiness throughout but not peat-like with a light aniseed rush on the finish. Absolutely chock full of flavours and complexity. This really does have a lot going on and it comes across as a toned down version of Mikkeller Black Fist. I like it a lot

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: FEB 23, 2014 Bottle shared at Josh’s Farewell Sleepathon, thanks to the boy himself who likes to lick Bruce’s floor (no euphamisms here!) 20/02/14.
Light black with a moderate dirty tan head.
Nose carries bitter roastings, aniseed, herbal notes, treacle toffee, spice, booze.
Taste comprises dark chocolate, liqourice, spice, dark toffee, herbal twang, hoppy backnotes, booze.
Full bodied +, viscous feel, light spritz in the carbonation which aids the drinkability of this big boy, sweet close with warming alcohol.
Decent ramped up impy, alcohol is very well integrated for 18%.
