3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 freeofthoughts (199) - Raytown, Missouri, USA - JAN 22, 2012
UPDATED: JAN 24, 2012 Pours dark black, with tan head. The smell is barbeque smoke and grain. The taste is heavy smoke and a little Scottish whiskey with a lighter imp stout body. There is some honey noticeable and it is a very thoughtful addition as it adds a great sweet respite from the peat whiskey and smoke. A very big stout, and a true "man?s beer", as it was originally labeled. It wasn’t amazing at first but as it warmed it got better and better, by the end it was almost kbs good, smooth and rich and strong.

Bottle. Colour... opaque black with a tan head. Nose... very roasty with charcoal dust, bonfire and whisky. Palate... tremendous depth with a gently frothy mouthfeel and waves of bittersweet chocolate, oak, charred earth, and of course whisky, all of which resonate across the entire palate. Wish I had more bottles of this one!

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20 Marheb (425) - Montréal, Quebec, CANADA - NOV 25, 2011
4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20 maledictum (498) - Granada, SPAIN - NOV 24, 2011
Bottle. Pitch black pour with a large, dense brown head that lasts a while. Aroma is quite roasty, smoky and a little boozy, with hints of dark chocolate, licorice and whisky. Flavour has some sweetness and hints of coffee, honey and dark fruit up front, giving way to powerful wood, smoke, chocolate and roast malt notes on the back palate. Thick, creamy mouthfeel with moderate to low carbonation and a long bitter, roasty finish.
