11.2 oz bottle at home: Pours a lightly hazy ruby chestnut with a one finger yellowed-tan creamy head. Rich malty aroma with spiced cake batter and some apple. Some solventy alcohol can be swirled up along with some bitter herbal greenery. Touch of vanilla? Full bodied and silky character on the tongue. Soft CO2 but it still hits the back of the throat with some zing (combo with alcohol?). Malt with some toffee or caramel leads up to a rather bitter herb and hop. From there the alcohol jumps off warming the back of the throat and highlighting a green twig on the back of the tongue. That character grows as the glass empties and starts to get in the way. Overall quite a pleasing beer, more so in the mouth than on the nose. Alcohol a bit too dominant in the aroma.

Sampled on BQ2010. Bottle. Pours a dark cloudy amber body with nice small brown head. Aroma is dark fruits, mainly prunes. Flavor was very well balanced, and extremely controlled considering the high abv. There are notes of alcohol barely present, more dominant flavors of malt, prune, and sugar.

Cloudy deep amber with a medium beige head. Sweet aroma with overripe fruits, caramel, roasted malt and hops. Flavour was sweet with roasted malt, caramel, hops, ripe fruits, whiskey and hints of pine. Finished bitter. Quite ful and vinious. Not bad.

Tried on Beer Quest 2010 with all the guys. This was number 10. Pour of hazy brown. Noe head. Aroma of prunes. Flavor was harsh. Bits of strong malts. Strange but good. Nicely hid the alc. with some spices.

[bottle @ RBESG 2009, Grand Tasting] Nice toffee aroma with some spicy, herbal hops. Foggy red-bronze with a thin, off-white ring. Smooth toffee flavour with moderate to elevated bitterness and sweet walnut notes. Medium body, sweet finish that is slightly bitter, moderate carbonation.

Bottled 05/2009 Reminds me of James Franco’s colorful description in Pineapple Express. "Imagine that Mikkeller beer and Brewdog Beer got together and had a baby, and then that baby got together with Scotch Whisky and had another baby...." Nose is a little weird, but balanced and complex. Sweet, bitter, oaky, spicy. All good stuff, but not amazing. The palate however is an explosion of red apple, vanilla, spices, yeastiness (could use a few more years) and that intangible terroir element. Very good stuff indeed. I’d like to try this bottle with two years on it.

11.2 oz. bottle. Batch #243. Bottled on: 07/05/09. Mine says 12.1% ABV. A murky copper pour with a thin sandy head. The aroma features candied sugar, caramel, plums, prunes, vanilla extract, and grapefruits in the background. A full, syrupy body. The taste is quite sweet upfront with a tangy transition and a bitter, drying finish that lingers. Candied sugar, caramel, plums, prunes, and vanilla extract are all evident. Grapefruitiness at the end. There is just a bit of an underlying oakiness throughout. Warming alcohol is present, but not nearly suggestive of a 12.1% ABV.

Bottle. Pours deep orange brown witha thin head. Malty sweet aroma with notes of dried fruits. The flavor has dried fruits, caramel, berries, and a little bit of boozy hotness. Pretty good.
