Commercial Description:
This is a rauchbier brewed with german rauchmalt and peated malt only. It's fermented with lager yeast at ale temperatures - like a California Common.

Pours a clear dark brown with a huge, rocky, beige head. Smells bacony. Sweet with smoked malts and smoked ham. Medium bodied. Medium carbonation. Dry smoked finish. Good stuff.

Bottle, courtesy Ungstrup (at GBBF), August 2006. Muddy, dark brown colour. Very strong smoky bacon aroma. Less pronounced in the flavour. Lightish body, with a sweet edge and a touch too much carbonation for my taste.

Bottle... This beer rocks!... Murky dark brown lager with a small, creamy, off-white head. Decent retention. Acrid aroma with billows of peat and hickory smoke, dark malts, tobacco and charcoal. Excellent balance provided by deeply roasted malt sweetness, mild acidity and medium bitterness. Full-bodied with a whole-milk mouthfeel and lively carbonation. Smoky, crisp, dry finish. Kudos to boboski for sharing the bottle!

Thanks Jason for sharing this! This is a very nice rauchbier. The beer pours to a murky dark brown body with a creamy tan head. The aroma is meaty. Fresh made bacon bits and summer sausage. The flavor is meaty, bacon, smoked malts, nice rauchbier components. Typical palate. Medium bodied. Creamy chocolate shows up in the flavor at times.

At the tasting this beer was present at, I do believe I was the person most intrigued and smitten with it. A bubbly beige head forms, creamy, with average retention, never fully receding. The body is oily, lightly hazy, a demonstration of tightly knit blood red and dark chestnut coloration combinations. The aroma is very heavy in all aspects, though certainly the majority of the recognition goes to multi-faceted and adorable one-of-a-kind smoke of a most delectable and mouthwatering variety. The smokiness resembles, in some tangent, peated malt with hints of dessert wine, much like a dram of Macallan 10 year old cask strength Scotch. Burning French oak notes follow and add to the melee. This is truly a very uniwue and heart-grabbing smokiness. Plentiful, fully toasted grains, light fruit and very little noticeable alcohol seal the deal, this one’s a keeper; what a shame it’s no longer produced. The California Common stylings of fermentation add depth rarely encountered in this genre. Additions of moderately high sugary-sweet caramels lead the flavor forward. Smoke is reduced to a moderate(neither too little nor excessive) amount, situated nicely within a lightly acidic tastebud crinkling malt profile. The mouthfeel is medium bodied, easygoing and thankfully devoid of any watery texture. High carbonation, lightly sticky until the end. The finish is of medium smoke, with salts and meat notes, sweetness lingering. So enjoyable.
