In Mikkeller we have over the years done many collaboration brews. However, the last one we did was a little unusual – we collaborated with the Swedish tattoo studio Crooked Moon. The two brothers Jacob and Jonas Pedersen that run Crooked Moon Tattoo in Helsingborg wanted to celebrate their tattoo studio’s first birthday with a big party, and what could be more natural than to do it with a beer in their own name? The two brothers have designed the labels for this beer. And therefore this beer comes with two different labels. One by of Jacob, and the other by Jonas. The beer is just like a Crooked Moon tattoo: strong and powerful. In this case we are talking about a violently hoppy double IPA with 9% alcohol. You’ll find Crooked Moon / Mikkeller DIPA find on draft and bottled. The picture show the two labels – Jacob’s label design to the left and of course then, Jonas’ to the right.En dobbelt india pale ale.
Ingredienser: vand, malt, (pilsner, pale), humle (amarillo, citra, nelson sauvin, simcoe, sorachi ace), og alegær.

Tap. Bundobust, Leeds. Cloudy, dark gold. Thin, sticky, lasting, white head. Big, fusty mandarin citrus. Lots of pine resin. Fairly brash. Verges on minty and herbal. Taste is heavy bitter. Some sweetness. Full, chewy palate. A bit boozy. Finishes long, chewy, oily bitter. Loads of oomph, not much finesse. Still liked it a lot, though.

Bottle - 750mL crowned. Murky, muddy amber with a tall, dense blond head. Aroma is very floral and fruity with citrus, sweet malt, light caramel and herbal notes. Taste is big fruit (apricot, tangerine, tropical fruit notes), floral hops, sweet malt, bread, toasted grains, light caramel and piney notes. Body is medium with a strong bubbly carbonation, light warmth and lingering hop bitterness. Ends with more sweet malt notes, floral hops, strong fruit presence, caramel notes and hop oils.

2/11/15 - Monk’s Pub (Chicago) Draft -Nice mixture of fruity hops and a taste of caramel. Tasted somewhat bitter, yet smooth and enjoyable to drink. Strong flavor and texture is a reason I liked this offering. Well done Mikkeller and hope to find additional offerings from this brewer down the road.
