In Mikkeller we have over the years done many collaboration brews. However, the last one we did was a little unusual – we collaborated with the Swedish tattoo studio Crooked Moon. The two brothers Jacob and Jonas Pedersen that run Crooked Moon Tattoo in Helsingborg wanted to celebrate their tattoo studio’s first birthday with a big party, and what could be more natural than to do it with a beer in their own name? The two brothers have designed the labels for this beer. And therefore this beer comes with two different labels. One by of Jacob, and the other by Jonas. The beer is just like a Crooked Moon tattoo: strong and powerful. In this case we are talking about a violently hoppy double IPA with 9% alcohol. You’ll find Crooked Moon / Mikkeller DIPA find on draft and bottled. The picture show the two labels – Jacob’s label design to the left and of course then, Jonas’ to the right.En dobbelt india pale ale.
Ingredienser: vand, malt, (pilsner, pale), humle (amarillo, citra, nelson sauvin, simcoe, sorachi ace), og alegær.

3oz sample at Expo Cerveza Mexico 2014. An opaque golden beer with a white foamy head and some lacing. It has a floral aroma with a lot of grapefruit and citrics. Taste is bitter with a strong floral finish. Faint carbonation and considerable astringency. Strong aftertaste that reminds me of mint.

330 ml bottle @ Fox and Hounds, Aabenraa. Unclear orange body with a with a fine off-white head. Aroma has malt, citric fruit, caramel, apricot, hint of rubber and the the unmistakable sorachi ace. Flavor is smooth malty, some caramel, citric fruit, pine, herbs and toast. Feels actually more sweet than bitter. Balanced body and decent aftertaste. A bit odd as an DIPA, not really that bitter but nice and interesting enough.

33cl bottle probably from Drink Shop, Tallinn. Pours just slightly hazy golden to amber with an off-white head. Rather fruity and slightly candy like aroma with caramel, some floral notes, sweet tropical fruits and hints of pine and herbs. Sweet with fairly fruity and some almost unpleasant flavours and a decent bitterness. Perfectly decent, but not a beer I would look for to have a second time.

Boa breja.
