Ungstrup (10432), Frederiksberg, Denmark Jun 4, 2007 [Another century celebrated with a Mikkeller beer - this time 8400] A slightly hazy golden going for amber beer with a huge bubbly white head. The aroma is very hoppy with notes of hops, grapefruit, pollen, caramel, and some malt. The flavor is sweet with notes of caramel to start off with - seeming very ordinary at first, but then when the beer start running along the tongue things pick up. The powerful hoppiness really unfolds with notes of grass, grapefruit, flowers, alfa acid, and what not, leading to a crisp and very bitter finish which at first runs along and tickles the sides of the tongue, but at last leaves a bitterness on the tongue - craving another sip. Mixed into it all are light notes of caramel and pilsener malt. A really crisp, refreshing, and quaffable beer.
But be warned - this is no lawn mower beer, since the 8% ABV will creep up on you unnoticably and will impair your ability to operate machinery - or is it just, that it is so good, that you forget your duties and rather just have another? omhper (9704), Stockholm, Sweden May 14, 2007 Draught at Københavnske Øldage. Deep golden, creamy head. Grassy nose. Dryish with fairly slim body. Powerful grassy hops dominates. The slender body struggles under the weight of the hops. Lingering very bitter finish. Like a polish Mocne, but much more bitter. I believe it’s impossible to achieve pilsener like characterics at 8%. Papsoe (9242), Frederiksberg, Denmark May 14, 2007 (On tap) Clear, deep golden with a creamy, off-white head. Fruity or perhaps rather floral aroma. Medium body with a solid base of pale pilsener malts and then a distinct, floral hopping. Very fresh and not harshly alcoholic as other beers of this style. 110507 Oakes (6556), Miami Beach, Canada May 7, 2008 Cloudy golden-beige. BIg hoppy, saazy kind of nose with light but rounded malts. Full pale malt character is smooth and rounded, with a heavy hop bitterness. sk8viking (5997), Copenhagen, Denmark May 15, 2007 Draught. Yellow colour with a white head. Citric, american hops aroma and a light sweet malty, citric, hoppy taste. MEdium body with a dry finish. Quit nise!
