buzzoven (67), Japan May 4, 2008 Updated: Jun 10, 2008 Popped opened the cork and peered into the misty mouth of the bottle. My first Imperial Pilsner. Pours a nice rose-lemon colour with very little nose, but a nice cloudy head that lasted the full pint. Retains a stable malty taste with hints of bitterness and a gentle feel on the pallete. Low in carbonation...always a good thing and finishes with a crisp, peppery sensation with some more of that zesty bitterness lngering. Would certainly drink again.
Angeloregon (1488), Portland, Oregon, USA Jul 8, 2008 Bottle thanks to Alex at Belmont Station in Portland--Poured a rich golden-copper body. Hoppy, dry crisp nose. Not like most imperial pils/European strong lagers of past. Crisp, dry, nice lager yeast. Finished especially astringent and smooth. Wow! Mogwai (127), Askeby, Denmark Jul 8, 2008 Bottle. Pours an orange/amber colour with large frothing head. Flavor is very flowery and fruity, but also with hops. The mouthfeel is amazingly soft and smooth. Flavor is long lasting hoppyness, only slightly bitter. Very sweet. Really good! Never imagined a "pilsner" could taste like this. GAManiac (178), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Jul 5, 2008 Bottle. Pours a hazy orangish amber with huge rocky three-finger white puffy head that lingers for ages and leaves huge clumps of lacing on the way down. Aroma is big on hoppy lemon grass up front, but not overpoweringly hoppy with heavy bready malt smells in the background. Taste is similar to the smell with some citrus hops up front, mainly grapefruit tones. This gives way to the sweets malts and some spices before the grassy notes come back with a crisp, clean, and slightly bitter finish. Mouthfeel is medium-bodied and slightly astringent with good carbonation. This is a great example of a strong lager/pilsner. Clear gold with a massive off white head that descends rockily. The label says Malt Liquor, which evokes images of paper bags and park benches. This is far from that! The nose is sweet grain drenched in citrus and grass. The flavor is bitter hop madness, citrusy and grassy with a light caramel tinge. IPA lovers should dig this, for sure. Very drinkable. Medium bodied and slightly slick, a touch of hotness in the finish Interesting stuff!
