375mL bottle, pours a clear golden with a small white head. Aroma is pretty hot, with toasted oak, light liqueur, caramel and some earthy woodiness. Flavour is quite sweet, with caramel, lots of juicy sweetness, light oak, and concealed alcoholic note that leaves a lingering burn. Quite sweet, with medium complexity. Nice high gravity barley wine, but nothing special.

Orange with a pale head. Aroma is brown sugar, honey, stewed apricot, peach jam. Full bodied, sticky mouthfeel, sweet and fruity on the palate, smooth finish with some warmth as it goes down. Flavours are apricot jam, honey, caramel, peach, very subtle hint of oak.

Pours clear orange with a finger of thick white head. Aroma of caramel, toffee, ripe mango and apricot, muscovado, barrel notes. Taste is overly sweet with light fruit tart, some burnt butter, overripe fruit. Warming boozy finish that lingers. Body is rich and creamy with soft carbonation.

@ Beer Temple tasting. Poured deep golden, no head. Aroma is very woody, alcohol soaked raisins. Full body, smooth. Flavour much as the aroma. Nice, not very complex.

Bottle. Light hazy copper with a medium sized diminishing bubbly white head. Caramel and alcohol nose. Oxidized, sugar/syrup, honey, light fruity, light wood. Taste is close to heavy sweet and light/medium bitter. Full body, oily/syrupy texture, near flat carbonation. Warming alcohol, that stings a bit without being boozy. Good strong stuff and pretty much what I hoped for.

(forêt tasting - six of them) pours hazy golden orange with a small cap, legs are sticky. candy sugar, caramel, tobacco, booze, lightly woodsy but also vinous, bit of coconut, pepper, grass, catpiss hints, chalk, nice fruitiness - berries and apples. low carbonation, medium body - oily and sticky, silky, sweetness kept under control which is appreciable, bold grassy-spicy-peppery and lightly tannic finish. one of my favourite from this series.

Bottle (375 ml). Clear golden/orange with a light ring of white foam that is quickly disappearing and minimal lacing. Aroma is of alcohol, caramel, honey, wood and grass/floral notes. Taste is boozy with honey, caramel, wood, almost no fruits in this one compared to the other from the series. Warming/burning finish. Full bodied. Low carbonation. Sirupy mouthfeel. This one is probably the most balanced from the series even if it’s still too boozy for my liking. Nice sipper.

UPDATED: JAN 8, 2014 Pour is again golden (the light toasted version are a little lighter than their medium toasted counterpart but not by much) with not much head but good lacing anyway. Floating sugar crystals (this is what I think they are). Aroma is again really full of hot alcohol but this one had some green notes to it (not sure where it might be coming from) to it. Taste is really sweet and boozy with some nice brown sugar and maple sugar flavors. Mouthfeel is again syrupy. I liked this one better than the Tronçais versions we had just before.
