COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This Bock from Mikkeller is called Frelser. Means Savior in Danish. The name is a subtle reference to all Bocks Mother: Salvator. Originally the monks brewed Salvator because they needed a very strong and rich beer during Lent. Do not drink this beer instead of a meal, it contains 11% alcohol.

25.4 oz bottle. Dark brown with a fluffy beige head. Nose is chocolate, raspberry jam and brown sugar. Almost full body with a tang. Taste is bittersweet chocolate, sour cherry and caramel with a bitter grassy finish. Rich and satisfying. I would have never guessed this was a doppelbock.

On tap at KØ-10. It’s a dark brown beer topped by a small, dense beige head. The aroma is sweetish, with some dried fruits and chocolate, and a nice hoppyness. The flavor is quite bitter and also sweet, with dried fruits and chocolate. Nice bitterness in the end. Warming and full-bodied. A pleasant one, more bitter than most doppelbocks, but it suits it. 100506

(750ml bottle best by 3/31/12 thanks to blutt59) clear rich deep brown, creamy tan head. Nose of raisin, alcohol, caramel and honeydew. Taste of toasty raisin, oranges, candied fruit, and caramel. Finish is dry, nearly powdery with a linger of citrus.

Thanks to blutt59 for sharing this bottle. The beer pours a brown color with red highlights and a tan head. The aroma is roasted malt, toffee, dark fruit and a little bit of something that resembles trash. The flavor is dark fruit, toffee, roasted malt and surprisingly, no alcohol. The beer is very dry. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

UPDATED: APR 30, 2012 Bottle thanks to someone at sourfest. Pours with a brown body and a tan head that stays. Aroma of brown sugar, raisins and a bit of hop character. Taste is brown sugar, and herbal with a lot of caramel and some dark fruits. Lively bubbles, a decent amount of alcohol.
Rerate: Hazed deep brown body with a minimal tan head. Aromas are of deep caramelization, melanoidins, raisins, alcohol and leather. Flavors are of leather, booze, hugely bitter, earthy, raisins, boozy, soil. Very big bodied, warming.

Bottle… Pours mostly clear and nearly black (deep ruby when held up to light) with a small, creamy, off-white head. Good retention. The bouquet is nutty, chocolaty and lightly vinous – medium sherry. Full-bodied and creamy with moderate carbonation. The flavor is chocolaty and vinous with only a rumor of coffee. Sweet; then bitter. Finishes carbonaceous and mildly bitter with a hint of acidity at the wee end. Kudos to jtclockwork for shipping this bottle my way!
