This Bock from Mikkeller is called Frelser. Means Savior in Danish. The name is a subtle reference to all Bocks Mother: Salvator. Originally the monks brewed Salvator because they needed a very strong and rich beer during Lent. Do not drink this beer instead of a meal, it contains 11% alcohol.

Draught at Ørsted Ølbar. Pours very dark reddish brown with an off white head. Crystal clear. The colour is a bit too dark for my taste but otherwise a nice appearance. The aroma is very malty with caramel, fudge and dried fruit and a hop note, that is very present vis a vis the average Doppelbock but very downplayed for a Mikkeller beer. On the palate there is nice carbonation to lift heavy malts and make this quite drinkable. Finishes more hoppy and with more bitterness than usual for the style, but it works very well with the sweet and malty flavours.

Bottle looks really good. Beer in the glass brownish, nice head. Starts strong, malty, light alcoholic notes, not too sharp. Light nutty hints. All in all well balanced. Warming finish. Really nice!

750 mL bottle. Medium brown pour with a couple fingers of beige head after a vigorous pour. Big malty aroma, some roast, leather, little bit of smoke, caramel. Taste is similar malt affair, a bit of the alcohol comes through. Medium to full bodied, slightly fizzy carbonation.
