3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours brown with a nice beige head. Aroma is very yeasty you can really smell the bret. It also has a very malty aroma as well. sweet like toffee. Flavour is very mild. It is funky as it claims. But is a littledull, The toffee flavour is very bold and agreeable, slightly hopy with the bite of bret. This is an interesting brew but I was expecting a lot more.

This one was a surprise, I expected a beer, but instead I got some sweet apple juice. Suffice to say it was a letdown.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Corked 750ml bottle. BB 16/12/14
Served at 13 degrees (Yeah, I had a temperature probe handy!) in a goblet.
Creamy white head that clings lazily to the glass, atop a lightly hazy copper body.
Bitter orange hopiness on the nose, biscuity malt sweetness, touch of earthy spice and sharp citrus-like yeasty twang.
Suprisingly lean body for the strength, moderate yet racy carbonation, light creaminess about the texture that dries suggesting a well attenuated body and a slight warmth alludes to the big underlying abv without being overt.
It opens out far more on the body, complex with the slightest bit of funk; pepper, orange, vanilla, biscuity malt, lemon meringue, grass, cinammon, peach, ginger. As the flavour lingers notes of sour mash grains, grapefruit, hay and salty sweat seem to appear, though i’d say you have to be looking for it, otherwise it just comes across as an ’odd aftertaste’. Finish is relatively low bitterness, dry, and the alcohol could very easily escape detection...if I could stand up properly!
Quite enjoyed this one. Very reminisant of Orval at times. Maybe not as complexly orange-peel-like and horsey as the last Orval I had, but there’s comparisons in the flavour, and oddly the body, which is quite remarkable considering this is a beast of a much more robust nature. Either way, i’d be tempted to put one of these away just to see if any underlying rogue yeast creates some extra funk and jive, which would really lift this beer into another dimension!

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
bottle pours a murky dark orange with nice, sustaining off white froth. Plenty going on the aroma - a strong hop prescence, characterized by resin and pine, tobacco and leather, subtle notes of funk and musky basement, a soft raisin, a burnt, almost peaty note, along with vegetable notes as well. Unquestionably complex. Flavor is a progression of dark fruit, to hops, to a fruity funk sensation, leaving a lasting, tingling but subtle bitterness. Would not have guessed the alcohol to be so high, very smooth, medium to full bodied, not syrupy or oily. This is good stuff. The nose is the best part, I seem to get something new from it with every whiff - some dark, cedery spices now. Overall a very intriguing beer, and good.

3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle. Pours cloudy amber coloured with a big off white head. Aromas of orange fruit, mild anise, yeast and apricots. Flavour is dry with notes of yeast, fruit and mild brett. I guess this beer would gain something if stored for some years..

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours dark amber with a beige head. Aroma of faint vanilla, dark sweet fruits, dry brett, caramel, ripe plums and some tartness in the back. Very nice balance between the sweeter belgian stuff and the wild yeasty stuff. Taste is quite dry with some toffee notes, brett, ripe berries (red currants), weak resin, ripe plums and some dryness and weak alcohol in the end. Very nice!

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
The golden amber color was deeper in shade than most BSPAs, and the the head atop was three finger thick. The smell was not typical of a wild ale, as I did not get any Brett character via the nose. I could only detect sour cherries and honey via the nose. The taste was similar to the smell, with honey like sweetness, and green apple sourness. There was a bit of an unexpected hop bite to this as well. The body was on the light side of medium, and aided in the quenching nature of the beer. The alcohol was very well hidden, and the strength lable was shocking compared to the experience.
