4.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20 GreatLibations (1831) - Last Supper, Arizona, USA - MAY 19, 2011
I’m lovin’ this brew. Pours a clouded burnt apricot color with a one finger head that lingers reducing to a spattered island and a fluffy lace. Mild aromatics but defined funk-e play and integral role here. Medium full nectar with mild creamy residual effers. Very easy to drink with a mild sweetness component backing up this lazy sourness that translates into old shoe leather and a touch of acidity. The finish goes on forever with excellent bittering. Amazing beer!

UPDATED: OCT 24, 2012 Bottle at home. Skype tasting with FaithHealer1. Poured a dark reddish amber with a thick rocky off-white head that fades to a frothy lump with lots of lacing. Awesome nose - vinous, tart, really lambic, woody brett, raspberry seed, touch of Belgian wheat character too, cloves and banana just lurking under the surface. Nice soft flavours, really creamy wheat, resinous fruity brett character, juicy berry fruits, slight honeyed Belgian malts. Lots going on, really complex, reminds me of Nelson Sauvignon in some ways but less sour. Soft bitterness in the finish, just a hint of bretty funk too. Amazingly drinkable. One of Mikkeller’s best. 4.2....... Bottle at home, again. So much fruit, slightly older bottle with slightly less bitterness, but so much juicy fruit character. Amazing. That is all. 4.4

Pours a cloudy orangish amber with a huge off white head and lots of lace. Aroma is interesting, starts sweet bannana and then gets sour. Mouth feel is light and dry tasting like cloves and bread. Very sessionable for a 9 point beer.

29/VIII/2012 33cl bottle from Geers (Oostakker) @ home - BB: 14/III/18 (2012-978)
Clear amber to copper red beer, huge creamy yellowish head, very stable, adhesive, nice lacing in the glass. Aroma: some banana when opening the bottle, lychee, citrus, pineapple, resin, is there bretta in it? (yes, just checked the bottle) little chemical. MF: soft carbon, medium body. Taste: fruity start, citrus, pineapple, lychee and mango, some spices, bit peppery, sweet malts, lemon juice, pretty bitter, hops, bretta is barely noticeable. Aftertaste: bit medicinal first, then the exotic fruits come kicking back in, pineapple, passion fruits, grapefruit, citrus. Not very "Belgian" though, if you ask me.
4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 Christian (9697) - Odense, DENMARK - MAR 27, 2009
Slightly hazy copper with a big off-white head. Aroma of peach, tangerine, pineapple and floral hops. The brett at this point is only a slightly earthy, woody character in the nose.
Complex, dry spicy flavour with pepper and thyme. On top of that wood and earth. Grapefruit and tangerine. Some hop flavour and a good bitterness. A touch of warming alcohol at the end.
At this point it’s a great strong saison, that will suit any dinner table. In 9 months or a year it may be the imperial orval we all have wet dreams about.
While USAlive at about the same strength is a potent in-your-face experience, this is much more subtle. And at the moment, I like my beers subtle and saison-like.
