Bottle, 75cl. This one pours an almost clear body, golden in color, and topped by a finger-thick off-white head. Quite piney nose, vinous and slightly citrusy, citruspeel and some grapefruit entering after a while. It’s sweetish, yet dry in the mouth, full-bodied and warming, with a lot of piney hops. Some alcohol and pinecones in the finish, and a really good bitterness level. A nice beer for sure, quenching and warming, but maybe a bit low on the brett flavors when I had it. 091230

Bottle. Amber colour with an off-white head. Aroma is malt, fruit. Flavour is apple, fruit, hop, malt, caramel, spices. Bitter finish. Nice beer.

Pours a nice semi-clear dark brown with white head. Nose smacks you in the face with citrus and fresh floral hops with some spices. Taste is not what I expected. Taste is lots of rye malts, apple, celery seeds, citrus and other spices. A little too spiced.

Bottle. Amber beer with a cream colored head. Malt and light yeast aroma. Brett and malt flavor with light lemon and nice spice. Medium bodied. Brett and malt lingers with light lemon.

[fung’ke e’str] Brewed by Mikkeller at De Proef Brewery in Belgium. Bottle purchased at the Cracked Kettle in Amsterdam. Bottle consumed today with Beerloco and Mrs. Beerloco. 750ml bottle with easter eggs and bunny rabbits all over the label. Appearance: golden orange body with 2 finger foam crown. Medium retention and decent amount of lacing. Smell: Apricot, belgian yeast (brett), ginger, and an unsweetened lemon note. Taste: Sweet hoppy fruits with and sweet malt. Lightly sweet finish with apricot and resiny hops throughout. Mouthfeel: Medium bodied and slightly chewy. Drinkability: Good considering its 9.39% abc and slightly chewy. This was a nice beer that I was happy to have had the pleasure to both share it with a fellow BA and to add it to the board! Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 06-15-2009

Bottle. O shoot, should have taken better notes or rated this closer to when I had it. Hides the alcohol well. Minimal Mikkeller plasticy taste, plenty bitter, bretty, well attenuated. I enjoyed this quite a bit.

Bottle at CK thanks to Travlr. Pours a muddy rye color with a thin, diminishing off-white head. Odd aroma that I wouldn’t necessarily call funky or Bretty. This is more spicy caramel, rye malt, red wine vinegar. An odd pair. Taste is rye malt, earthy/dirty notes, mineral water palate, but somehow is still boozy! The near 10% really overwhelms a fair weak base beer that has had the life sucked out of it by the Brett. But the Brett has done nothing for this beer except to rob it of whatever character it had to begin with.

Bottle at Churchkey. Dark golden color, small white head. Aroma of subtle cherries, malt, caramel. Taste is dry with a bit of funk and dust in the finish. Medium body. Not much character.

Clear golden with a creamy white head. Clean mildly sour green apple aroma. Nice lively palate. Creamy citrus and grain taste with good lightly sour taste. Very good.

A: The pour is a slightly hazy golden amber color with a large white head and tons of carbonation bubbles in the glass. S: The nose starts out with a nice tropical fruitiness of pineapple and mango, along with some citrus notes. However, these enjoyable aromas give way to solvent and ethanol. T: The industrial cleaner character does not translate to the flavor, thankfully. The citrus and tropical fruits do, however, and are really what this beer is about. A bready malt base with a light bitterness on the finish. Though the name of the beer leaves me wondering, where is the funk? M: A medium bodied beer with a very aggressive carbonation and perhaps a touch dry on the finish. D: I would have liked this beer more were it not for the nose. The flavors were decent enough, but the solvent aroma really does this one an injustice.
