Bottle. Just couldn’t wait longer to pop this, hah. Pours pitch black with a thick, dark brown delicious head. Damn, this beer always look so good. Aroma is mindblowingly good. Bourbon, coffee beans, licorice, cocoa powder, vanilla, some coconut-like sweeter notes, some tobacco, fudge, dry woody notes. Now to the taste. Oh, damn! Lots of sweeter light notes like vanilla and light caramel but behind that lies strong heavy notes like licorice, tobacco, grounded coffee beans and cocoa. Perfect balance.

Aroma: The smell is very vinous, a dry pea presence, dark forest fruits, soy sauce an a dash of coffee.
Appearance: The beer is black and oily, a really brown head, a high head, leaving little lacing but with heavy curtains.
Taste: The taste is sweet brown sugar, coffee and dark chocolate, and some spicy coconut.
Palate: Light carbonation, oily, thick and soft, a light dry finish.
Overall: This is a stout with everything extra added, but it does not cross the line.
Note: Bottle at De Klomp sampling Reviewed 2011-09-10.

UPDATED: DEC 21, 2014 33cl bottle served in a snifter. Pours an oily black liquid with a very short lived brown head. Aroma is powerful bourbon, vanilla and buttery burnt malts. Taste is sweet bourbon and vanilla with a creamy mouthfeel and a slightly bitter aftertaste. The ABV is extremely well hidden. A truly massive imperial stout and one of the finest examples I have tried.

mmahut (1304) - CZECH REPUBLIC - DEC 12, 2014
Bottle. The beer pours in very oily texture that is just black with no head at all. Aroma is complex right away, a lot of nutty toasty character right away, dark chocolate, woody, well balanced whiskey character. Amazing. Little bit cocoa too. Impressive balance. Taste has high woody bitterness, little bit too much as it’s pretty astringent, almost salty. Medium to high roasty chocolate sweetness. Body is full, low carbonation. Alcohol is well hidden.

Black, that’s all. Initially some brown foam, nothing left. Strong coffee and bourbon aroma, which did not come as a surprise. Similar strong taste, bitter coffee, bourbon notes. Perfect after dinner drink. (Arnhem 201411)

neongolden (680) - Linköping, Sweden/Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - NOV 16, 2014
(330ml bottle @ VilleValla Pub, Linköping, Nov 14 2014) Pours jet black with a tiny pale brown head that fades to a ring with no lace. Aroma has lots of vanilla and dark chocolate, bourbon, light roast notes make it past that. Very full rich flavours, dark chocolate and bourbon to the fore, sweet, charred wood notes, some vanilla, hints of coffee and licorice. Wood and bourbon build in the finish with the chocolate and molasses sweetness fading a bit, char and alcohol heat providing some dryness to an otherwise sweetish palate. Rich, full creamy thick body with very soft carbonation. This is a big stout bursting with flavour and lots of barrel character. Very good stuff, dangerously easy to drink and pretty complex. Missing that certain something that makes it truly exceptional, but happy to drink again and again.

draught@Erzbierschof - pitch black beer with a long lasting dark beige head; solid roasted notes of black chocolate, tobacco and Bourbon, hints of vanilla behind; thick and rich, full-bodied and with some sweetness; quite bitter finish with notes of molasses, Bourbon wood and chocolate
