4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pitch black with a dark brown head that isn’t long lasting.
Aroma: clear calvados, dark chocolate, licorice.
Taste: dark chocolate + pralines + liqueur, calvados and apples, licorice, not sour but the finish is tongue-puckering.
Wow, this may be even better than Cognac, very well balanced and tasty.

Bottle @ Tröls. Not to my taste unfortunatley, real heavy on the alcohol and etanol is thus a dominant aroma. Didn’t pick up on the calvados either.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle at home. It pours jet black with small tan head. The nose is rich roasted malt, coffee, earth, cocoa, light soy sauce notes, spice and wood. The taste is rich, roasty, dark chocolate, salted liquorice, umami aspect, burnt notes, touch of acidity, chewy malt, alcohol and brandy with a roasty, warming finish. Full body, fine carbonation and oily mouth-feel. A bit too savoury even....a touch of sweetness would help balance it out. So-so.

4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
Dark with brown head. Aroma is spicy, a lot milder than the bourbon edition. Same roasted malt and alcohol notes. Taste is of roast malt, chocolate, liquorice, dark fruit with spicy fruity notes. Proper solid one this. Love the barrel touch on this

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours black with fairly low reddish dark tan head that leaves a lot of lacing. Beautiful beer for sure! Sweetish aroma of figs, dates, muscovado, distinct barrel notes (although I couldn’t specifically say calvados), hints of chocolate behind all of the sweetness. Taste is almost overbearing sweet at first followed by what seems more like peats and whisky barrel. Dry, sweet finish with slight chocolate bitterness. Body is rich and oily with low carbonation. Very warming.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
25cl bottle with christmas eve. poured a black colour with a not to long lasting tan head. bitter chocolate and espresso, roasted malts, dark forrest fruits. the calvados barrel takes it over when the beer warms up (but not in a huge way). fruity apples combined with a small hint of sour apples. creamy mouthfeel. and a thick creamy and smooth mouthfeel. but it’s definitely not worth the high price tag! still have the cognac version. hope that one is better

Bottled. Pours opaque black with a brown glow and a little creamy tan head, leaving a fair lacing. Aroma of roasted malt, vanilla, dark fruits, coffee, chocolateand wood with calvados notes. Sweet flavor that ends up more dry, with some alcohol notes and some alcohol. Full bodied, oily texture and soft carb. An excellent brew.
